Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Le Charmois" 2024 by Bruno Colin
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Revealing a crystalline brilliance, the colour takes on a pale gold hue with luminous silvery highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with refreshing citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit. It is then enriched with delicate floral touches reminiscent of linden blossom, mingled with white fruit aromas and a flinty minerality.
Palate
Precise and finely delineated, the palate offers a supple texture underpinned by lovely acid tension. The balance between richness and freshness carries through to a silky finish, marked by a subtle saline touch.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Saint-Aubin pairs wonderfully with seafood such as scallops or oysters. It also enhances noble firm-fleshed fish like sea bass or turbot, as well as herb-roasted poultry or a creamy risotto.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 14°C, taking care to aerate it beforehand. This white wine can be enjoyed in its youth, but it will evolve favourably in the cellar until at least 2033.
The Purity and Elegance of a White Burgundy by Bruno Colin
The Estate
Born from the division of a historic family estate, the property was officially created in 2003 by Bruno Colin, its current owner. Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy, this estate spans just under nine hectares across prestigious terroirs. The winemaker cultivates a true mosaic of climats there, following a soil-conscious approach. Renowned for its pursuit of purity and tension, the estate has quickly established itself as an essential signature, offering cuvées that precisely express the identity of each parcel.
The Vineyard
Part of the Saint-Aubin appellation, the Le Charmois climat parcel covers a modest area of 0.17 hectares. Bordering the lands of Chassagne-Montrachet, this east-facing terroir rests on shallow clay-limestone soils. The old vines, planted in 1959, are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable farming. Mechanical soil work, including ploughing and mounding, is favoured to encourage microbial life and soil aeration. The grapes are hand-harvested to preserve the integrity and quality of the bunches.
The Vintage
The year was marked by climatic conditions that favoured moderate berry ripening, avoiding any excess. The absence of water stress on these clay soils helped preserve a lovely natural freshness, resulting in a healthy harvest marked by great finesse and remarkable purity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winery's philosophy aims to convey the purest expression of the terroir. For this 2024 vintage, winemaking was carried out with precision to preserve the fruit's natural tension, without chaptalisation. Ageing in oak is meticulously managed to support the wine's structure without ever masking its mineral identity.
