Carruades de Lafite 2019

Ripe nose, so fresh and alive with beautiful cherry-perfumed aromas too. This has a lovely, almost sweet, aspect to the fruit on the palate with high acidity making you salivate. High-toned blackcurrants and red cherries are supported by soft tannins and gentle licks of liquorice and coffee. A wine you just want to drink now as it's so appealing with freshness and lift, but it has the sides of spice that give it structure and make you realise it's still powerful and will age so well. The finish is cool and lifted. Poise and persistence – a tantalising Carruades.

This is a beautiful Carraudes with currant, sweet-tobacco and wet-earth aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with a dense mid-palate and tight, polished tannins. Fresh, with tension. Reminds me of the 1995 Lafite. This is so Lafite in character. It shows so much cabernet sauvignon character. It’s 68% cabernet sauvignon, 27% merlot and the rest cabernet franc. Try after 2026.

The 2019 Carruades de Lafite is a powerhouse that shows little of the radiance it did as a younger wine. That should not be an issue in time. The Cabernet is the highest it has ever been here, at 73%, and that seems to be especially evident today, certainly more so than it was two years ago. Savory and dense, with tons of power, the 2019 Carruades has quite a bit to offer for those who can wait.

Elegant and fresh, this baby Lafite offers flowers, sweet, lifted red currants, red plums, tobacco leaf and a touch of spicy cranberry on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, vibrant, crisp, refined and a bit reserved, the wine finishes with a mélange of crisp, fresh red fruits, spices and savory herbs. Drink from 2026-2040.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Ripe black berry fruit with chocolate undertones, nuances of heart cherry and blackberry, delicate hints of oak. Juicy and silky on the palate, fine tannins, elegant, ripe cherry, delicate hints of plum, subtle nougat touch on the finish, already well developed and very inviting, a multi-faceted food companion, has good development and certain ageing potential.

Fine and discreet nose, still a youthful expression, warm and ripe yet with freshness, good grip on the palate, intense with fine volume, a bit restrained today but well balanced in a classic style.

The 2019 Carruades de Lafite tastes like a mini-Lafite, offering beautiful currant, tobacco, cedar pencil, and spicy nuances in a medium-bodied, pure, elegant package. Based on 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc (which is a very high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon), this seamless 2019 has remarkable purity and precision, as well as length. It tastes more like a Grand Vin than a second wine.

One of the more concentrated Carruades, with the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon to date, packed with powerful dark plum and blackcurrant fruits, pencil lead and slate. Knitted down, sculpted tannins, there is austerity, even rigidity, to the structure, but it has put on weight and depth with ageing. This is a Carruades with a sense of occasion and will need time in bottle. 38 hl/ha yield, 28% new oak.

Carruade 2019, built on a very high level of cabernet sauvignons, is certainly the most complete and accomplished tasted in a long time, with admirable depth that it had sometimes lacked in the past.

Inviting, characterful fruit on the nose, with notes of dog rose, chocolate and fully ripe cherry, leading to a wine that is both refreshing and indulgent, with a finely grained texture, delectable chew, and a sappy, energetic, lifted finish.

Elegant bouquet of good intensity, clearly expressing its terroir with nuances of graphite followed by aromas of blackberry and blueberry. Velvety on the palate. The wine is fresh, balanced, and supported by fine, precise tannins. A great Carruades that heralds the Grand Vin with conviction!

Oh la la! It’s confirmed: Carruades is raising its quality level. For the record, 2019 has never had so little Merlot (27%). Dark, intense, purple color. Highly aromatic nose, fruity and fresh. On the palate, a world of softness and aromas opens up. The wine melts on the palate, with a slight touch of liveliness. However, the fragrance, the hint of vanilla, the freshness, and the seduction are very much there. Best of all, decanting smooths out that lively edge. Then, this wine becomes a kind of château Le Pin in Pauillac. Producing 150,000 bottles at this level is no small feat!

The 2019 Carruades de Lafite, a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in color. Notions of sautéed herbs, damp soil, and tapenade waft from the glass over a core of redcurrant preserves, baked plums, and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate is chewy and subtly fruited, with a soft-spoken finish.
