Crafted in consultation from the team at Tardieu-Laurent, the Castelmaure 2006 Corbieres Grand Cuvee represents a barrel-matured blend of Grenache and Syrah with just a bit of Carignan. Smelling of blackberry and cherry jam, with hints of coffee and faintly volatile distilled berry overtones, this is expansive, sweetly-fruited, and quite powerful on the palate, although it lacks any textural allure – being rather glassy – and betrays its 14.5% alcohol in some heat.
