Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep, dark red hue, enhanced by purple highlights.

Nose
The nose reveals a fine aromatic concentration, exuding scents of ripe black fruits, delicately underlined by subtle notes of new oak.

Palate
The attack is direct, opening onto a full, generous and velvety palate. The palate expresses great fruity elegance, supported by a balanced tannic structure and lovely freshness. The finish lingers on harmonious notes of fruit and minerality.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with refined poultry, whether roasted or glazed, as well as with braised or roasted feathered game. It also makes an ideal accompaniment to a meat tagine, dishes in creamy mushroom sauces, or characterful cheeses.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" 2010, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C.

The elegance and mineral complexity of a great Volnay wine

The estate

Founded in 1720, Maison Champy stands as the oldest wine merchant house in Burgundy. Established in the heart of Beaune, France, it boasts a remarkable historical heritage, including buildings whose architecture was inspired by Gustave Eiffel. A pioneer, the estate collaborated with Louis Pasteur in the nineteenth century. Today, the estate oversees a vineyard of some fifty hectares farmed organically and biodynamically. Acquired in 2023 by the AdVini group, the house is currently headed by Thierry Bellicaud, while Dimitri Bazas continues to oversee winemaking.

The vineyard

The "Les Taillepieds" climat is located on the heights of the village of Volnay, benefiting from a superb south-east-facing mid-slope exposure. This exceptional terroir, perched between 230 and 280 metres in altitude, is distinguished by its complex geology and high proportion of limestone. Its unusual name comes from the countless small, sharp stones that cover the clay soil, on which winegrowers used to cut their feet in years gone by. This poor, rocky soil gives the grapes remarkable finesse.

The vintage

The year 2010 was marked by unpredictable weather and particularly cool growing conditions. These climatic challenges led to a yield reduction of around 30% compared to a typical year. This reduction, however, allowed for exceptionally concentrated berries, offering lovely vibrancy and great quality.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" 2010 is overseen by winemaker Dimitri Bazas. The wine benefits from careful aging incorporating a subtle proportion of new oak barrels to highlight the fruit's aromatic complexity without masking it.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
