Château Coutet 2006

Light to medium gold with a greenish hue, this wine exhibits wonderfully pure notes of wood spice such as vanillin, honeyed citrus, a hint of under-ripe peach, and touches of crème brûlée and marmalade. With great acidity and finesse, this is a medium-bodied, impressively endowed, yet generally very racy, restrained style of wine that should age beautifully for 25 or more years. It is not the sweetest, and by no means the biggest wine of 2006, but it has nobility written all over it.

Almost as excellent as the 2003. There's intense botrytis spice on the nose, with lemon peel and dried pineapple. Full-bodied, superspicy and intense. Extremely racy. A beautiful wine. Best after 2014.

Mango, pineapple, white peach and honeyed apricots greet your nose. Sweet but fresh, young yet ready, the vanilla custard, honeyed tropical fruits and a generous dose of orange marmalade are what you'll find on the finish.

Bright, luminous yellow. Sleek bouquet with a lovely hint of botrytis, light raisins, moderate sweetness. Elegant, finely racy palate, dancing feel, chalky notes in the fine extract, elegant finish, enjoyable young.

It could be considered even more complex than the sumptuous 2005, with its fine acacia honey flavor becoming more defined...

Green-yellow color. Fruity nose with a touch of ethyl acetate (Scotch tape glue). Caressing, suave, fruity and slender palate, especially on the finish. Slightly lively note on the aftertaste. Medium length. pH: 3.5, residual sugar: 149 g/l.

It is the poise, the elegance of Coutet that shows so well in this delicious wine. It is ripe, with layers of apricot and peach, lifted with spice and an over-arching sweet acidity that gives the wine a wonderful, heart-stopping lift.
