Robert Parker

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Light to medium gold with a greenish hue, this wine exhibits wonderfully pure notes of wood spice such as vanillin, honeyed citrus, a hint of under-ripe peach, and touches of crème brûlée and marmalade. With great acidity and finesse, this is a medium-bodied, impressively endowed, yet generally very racy, restrained style of wine that should age beautifully for 25 or more years. It is not the sweetest, and by no means the biggest wine of 2006, but it has nobility written all over it.

Almost as excellent as the 2003. There's intense botrytis spice on the nose, with lemon peel and dried pineapple. Full-bodied, superspicy and intense. Extremely racy. A beautiful wine. Best after 2014.

Very slightly stinky. Good vibrancy and some slight burnt character. Racy. Very good intensity. (JR)

Mango, pineapple, white peach and honeyed apricots greet your nose. Sweet but fresh, young yet ready, the vanilla custard, honeyed tropical fruits and a generous dose of orange marmalade are what you'll find on the finish.

Weinwisser

Bright, luminous yellow. Sleek bouquet with a lovely hint of botrytis, light raisins, moderate sweetness. Elegant, finely racy palate, dancing feel, chalky notes in the fine extract, elegant finish, enjoyable young.

André Kunz

Fragrant, fresh, sweet bouquet with apricot and citrus. Plump, velvety, broad palate with rich sweetness and low acidity. Broad finish. 17/20 2015 - 2030

Bettane+Desseauve

It could be considered even more complex than the sumptuous 2005, with its fine acacia honey flavor becoming more defined...

Jean-Marc Quarin

Green-yellow color. Fruity nose with a touch of ethyl acetate (Scotch tape glue). Caressing, suave, fruity and slender palate, especially on the finish. Slightly lively note on the aftertaste. Medium length. pH: 3.5, residual sugar: 149 g/l.

It is the poise, the elegance of Coutet that shows so well in this delicious wine. It is ripe, with layers of apricot and peach, lifted with spice and an over-arching sweet acidity that gives the wine a wonderful, heart-stopping lift.

Description

2006 1er Cru Classe from Barsac

The Chateau Coutet vineyard stretches over 38.5 hectares of enclosed vines. The estate is located on an exceptional terroir. This 2006 is a blend of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle.

The beautiful golden coloured wine reveals a quite rich nose that opens up on a fine, subtle aromatic palette and gives off mild spices, honey, vanilla, lovely grilled or even cocoa-flavoured notes. The whole is underlined by a hint of small candid fruits and citrus zests. On the palate, the 2006 Chateau Coutet emphasises finesse over strength. The wine is an elegant combination of blended aromatic notes and impression of developing liqueur on a good mineral freshness, specific to the Barsac wines. The well-balanced wine offers finesse and is aromatically pleasant.
