Decanter

Aromatic intensity, wild flowers, some chocolate and blackcurrant notes. Red cherries. Grippy and filling but soft, chalky and saline, a gorgeous weight on the palate with ripe bramble berries, cool blue fruit and lots of cola, liquorice and wet stones. Very transparent and hands off. A touch straight but lovely muscular edge without the heft. Juicy, fun, clean, pure. Balanced. Savoury. Great job controlling the extraction – tannins are there but this is sapid too. A little more serious and structured and perhaps overall elegant than Clerc. A 2% dash of Petit Verdot completes the blend.

Spicy tobacco leaves, currants and floral aromas show well in the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is soft and supple, with lift, energy, and crispness to the sweet, red pit fruits and berries. The endnotes display a refreshing touch of mint, and tobacco. Allow it a year or two in the bottle, and it will reward your patience. The wine consists of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, 2%. 13% ABV, 3.70 pH. Harvesting took place on September 9 - September 20. Drink from 2029-2055. 93-95 Pts

This delivers the classic character of a Left Bank wine with plenty of concentration and deep fruits. Rich plum on the nose, crayon and pumice stone, with sapid and supple blackcurrant and pomegranate fruits. Just the right level of austerity of a young Armailhac, and this is one of the few this year where I really do feel that squid ink that I love so much. Like 2023 this is a vintage that will benefit from its barrel maturation. 3.7 pH. Harvest September 9 to 20. 50% new oak. Lucie Lauilhé winemaker and director. A slow unroll. 3.7ph.

A delicate, inviting bouquet with spicy and fruity nuances and a captivating energy, almost indulgent, with freshness leading the whole. Lively and velvety on the attack, the wine has elegant tannins that provide perfect support and, together with incisive acidity, bring an appreciable energy, with added finesse to boot. An exciting, savory, moreish, persistent wine that will certainly gain in substance during ageing, but is already so delicious now.

A lovely deep red with purple highlights. Highly aromatic nose, wonderfully fresh with an almost mentholated note. An original peppery undertone. More vanilla and blackcurrant as the wine is swirled in the glass. Precise on the attack and subtle through the mid-palate, with a present, well-integrated tannic frame, the wine finishes savory, a touch firm as befits the vintage, yet with plenty of aromas. Good length. Blend: 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13% - pH: 3.70. Ageing: 50% in new oak barrels for 18 months. Harvest: September 9 to 20.

Vinum

Radiant, clear and pure, blackcurrant, subtle cedarwood, rhubarb; on the palate elegant, finely built, feather-light yet with good structure; precise, with tannins that are not too dominant and perfectly judged acidity; stylistically on the feminine, quiet side, which suits the wine very well; highly elegant and balanced, delicate.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Château d'Armailhac 2025

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful ruby red hue, enhanced by delicate violet reflections.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves rich and complex, exuding scents of black and red fruits such as blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and redcurrant. The whole is refreshed by citrus notes, hints of blackcurrant bud and a touch of peppermint.

Palate
From the very first sip, which is lively, straight and lingering, this wine expresses a restrained power. The mid-palate offers an elegant substance endowed with a silky texture. The finish, marked by great freshness and lovely length, concludes with remarkable precision accompanied by a subtle saline note.

Food and wine pairing

This great wine pairs wonderfully with flavoursome meats such as grilled lamb or braised red meats. It will also enhance a roast pigeon served with pears, or a platter of aged hard cheeses.

Serving and ageing

Endowed with a solid structure, Château d'Armailhac 2025 is a wine built for ageing. It can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2050.

The elegance and power of a great Pauillac wine signed Château d'Armailhac

The estate

Located in the famous region of Bordeaux, the estate saw its first vines planted in 1750 by the Armailhacq family. Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, it was acquired in 1933 by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, before reclaiming its historic name of Château d'Armailhac in 1989. Today, this prestigious property is led by Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild. Under the technical management of Lucie Lauilhe, the estate continues to shine through its excellence and respect for the terroir.

The vineyard

Stretching over 80 hectares in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, this exceptional terroir lies on four distinct gravel mounds. The soils consist of light, deep gravel resting on a clay-sandy and limestone base, offering optimal drainage. The vines, with an average age of 40 years, benefit from an ideal southern exposure and tailor-made, environmentally friendly viticulture, allowing each grape variety to fully express its potential.

The vintage

The year 2025 began with a mild and dry winter, encouraging an early budburst on 2 April. Spring proved contrasted, marked by a rainy April, followed by an even flowering between 14 and 27 May. The hot and arid summer accelerated ripening during veraison (from 10 July to 4 August), concentrating the berries. Finally, a cooler and wetter late August perfected the balance of the grapes. The early harvest took place from 9 to 20 September under excellent sanitary conditions, although volumes were affected by the lack of water.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes benefit from modern facilities thanks to an eco-responsible vat room completed in 2021. The crafting of Château d'Armailhac 2025 continues with meticulous ageing over 18 months, carried out with 50% new barrels, in order to refine the structure and subtly integrate the woody aromas. Alcohol content: 13% vol.

Grape varieties

This Château d'Armailhac 2025 comes from a blend made up of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
