Vinum

Oak-driven, lots of oak; compact in style, even somewhat angular.

James Molesworth

Rich, ripe and forward, with mouthfilling waves of plum sauce and blackberry preserve, joined by anise, singed alder and ganache notes through the finish. Very solid for the vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2034.

Decanter

Expressive and aromatic on the nose, with violet edges and bright fruit. I like the chewy tannins here, definitely mouth-coating but underpinned by creamy fruit that’s round and soft. Good concentration and drive with balanced acidity. A nice sweet lift on the finish and, although the tannins are quite present, it does feel in balance.

James Suckling

This is wonderfully perfumed with blackcurrant and floral aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with super-integrated tannins that go on to the very end. Bright and vivid. One of the best Dauzacs ever. 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot. Best after 2026.

The 2019 Dauzac is an absolutely gorgeous wine that will appeal most to readers who enjoy sumptuous, flamboyant Bordeauxs. Plush, silky tannins envelop the finish, adding to the wine's considerable allure. The unabashedly flamboyant style is surely not for everyone, but there is certainly plenty to like here. Waves of inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, sweet oak, chocolate and espresso linger on the huge finish.

I liked this a lot in barrel and I am liking it a lot in the bottle! Roses, violets, licorice, cherries and espresso come through easily in the perfume. The wine is soft, silky, fresh and refined on the palate with loads of sweet, perfectly ripe, black plums in the sensuous, refined, lengthy finish. Drink from 2024-2045.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Fresh orange zest, fine blackberry fruit, a hint of cassis, a pleasant touch of wood, an attractive bouquet. Complex, juicy and freshly structured, red cherries, fine tannins, elegant and persistent, pleasant sweetness on the finish, with length and ageing potential.

Mulberries, tobacco, new leather, redcurrants, spicy herbs, and violets all define the bouquet of the 2019 Château Dauzac, a pretty, medium-bodied, remarkably elegant and seamless Margaux with tons to love. It's certainly worth seeking out and is going to cruise for 15-20 years.

Kunz barrel sample 2020: (73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 14.5% alc./vol., production 120,000 bottles) Mineral, peppery, delicately bitter bouquet, red and blue berries, blueberries, grains, nougat, herbs, slate. Fresh palate with a fine core of fruit, fine-grained tannins, powerful aromatics, bourgeois structure, long, powerful finish. Has room to improve.

(73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 14.5% vol. alcohol, production 120,000 bottles) Mineral, peppery, subtly bitter bouquet; red and blue berries, blueberries, grains, nougat, herbs, slate. Fresh palate with fine backbone and good fruit, finely sanded tannins, powerful aromatics, bourgeois structure, long, robust finish. Still has room to improve. 17/20 2025 - 2042

Classic young Margaux aromatics here, high floral notes of peony and violet, a touch of gunsmoke reduction with power and concentration underneath. Great precision to the bilberry and cassis fruit on display also, this is deft winemaking and an impressive wine. Harvest September 17 to October 10. New owner, Christian Roulleau, as of this 2019 vintage, still with Laurent Fontin director.

The 2019 Dauzac is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It features bright, pure notes of blackcurrants, kirsch, and crushed plums, plus suggestions of camphor, pencil lead, and cedar. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled, with tight-knit, youthful fruit and finely grained tannins, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

La RVF

It confirms its fine form. The wine is fleshy yet juicy, driven by lovely fruit and finely wrapped in oak. A peppery touch marks the finish.

Le Figaro Vin

Here is a very expressive nose, with intense notes of pencil lead, black fruits, black cherry, balanced by floral touches and tangy candies. This experience continues on the palate with a beautiful velvety texture, flavorful and indulgent. A wine destined for a bright future, once its elegance has tamed its power.

Yves Beck

Dauzac is inviting, although still clearly marked by its élevage. With a bit of aeration it gains in complexity and reveals nuances of blackberry. The wine is charming, creamy and elegant. Balanced and gourmand in character, it will already offer pleasure in its youth.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark, intense, youthful color. Very aromatic nose with pure, ripe, and subtle fruit. Gentle on the attack, silky as it develops, highly fragrant, but also slightly lively; the wine evolves pleasantly and flavorfully, with well-coated tannins. Medium length.

Terre de Vins

A model of breadth, depth, and concentration. Today it bursts with fruit, with youthful aromas taking the lead on the nose: blackcurrant, black cherry, and also licorice. Very broad and enveloping on the palate, with a silky mid-palate and tannins of great finesse. Like many of the vintages that followed, it bears the hallmark of élevage combining finesse and precision.

Description

The refinement and balance of a fine red wine from Margaux, bursting with fruit

The estate
An 1855 Grand Cru Classé of Margaux, Château Dauzac, is one of the estates that have experienced the most significant improvement in quality in recent decades. Thanks to the tireless work carried out both in the vineyard and in the winery, this magnificent property has become a true emblem of the Margaux appellation.

The vineyard
Enjoying a superb located in the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux, the Château Dauzac vineyard covers 45 hectares of vines planted on outcroppings of deep gravel. The vines are 35 to 40 years old on average and are planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare.

The vintage
2019 was a year marked by significant climatic contrasts in the different seasons. These contrasts have, de facto, justified an increased presence in the vineyard to allow the technical teams to intervene at the right moment. The Château Dauzac 2019 stands as a testament to the hard work and know-how of the estate’s technical teams. The rigorous selections made by the teams throughout the vegetative cycle of the vine made it possible to keep only the most beautiful bunches and obtain perfect ripeness on all of them. The harvest was carried out on "fruit days", following the biodynamic calendar, with the establishment of a plot-by-plot selection.

The winemaking
The winemaking for the Château Dauzac 2019 was carried out in a gravity-fed cellar without sulphur added and with natural yeasts taken from the vineyard. The vinifications were carried out in wooden vats.

The ageing
The Château Dauzac 2019 is aged in French oak barrels (66% new oak) for 15 months with racking.

The blend
The Château Dauzac 2019 is made from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (73%) and completed by Merlot (27%). The Château Dauzac 2019 is a certified 100% vegan wine.

The tasting
Colour
The Château Dauzac 2019 displays a dark purple colour in the glass.

Nose
The first tastings of the Château Dauzac 2019 reveal a Margaux marked by intense notes of black and red fruits, such as redcurrant and blackberry. Beautiful floral and spicy notes appear next.

Palate
Juicy and generous, the palate reveals a delicious and creamy texture from the very first moments. The roundness of the texture is balanced by the freshness of the fruit, with a fine tannic structure backing everything up. Maturity, balance and structure combine in this superb Margaux, and these qualities persist into the finish, making this wine very easy to drink.

Food pairings
To fully appreciate the finesse and complexity of this fine red wine from Margaux, it is advisable to serve it with poultry, white meat, red meats or cheeses.

Ageing potential
The Château Dauzac 2019 reveals an excellent potential for ageing. It will be ready to enjoy by 2025-2040, but also has the capacity to evolve through several decades.
