The authentic and refined expression of a great Burgundy terroir

The estate

Built in 1990 on the outskirts of Dijon, Château de Marsannay is a rising star of Burgundy. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, its current owner, the estate spans 40 hectares of vines spread across prestigious appellations. Under the guidance of technical director Sylvain Pabion, who joined in 2015, the estate has undergone a major qualitative shift by highlighting the individual expression of each climat. Certified organic since 2022, the estate stands out for its advanced agroecological practices, combining respect for biodiversity with soil work carried out using horses.

The vineyard

Clos Vougeot is a historic terroir whose soils are composed of clay, chalk and gravel. The vines, averaging around forty years of age, are cultivated according to organic farming principles, including the gentle Poussard pruning method and the use of green manure. Yields are kept controlled at around 35 hectolitres per hectare to ensure optimal concentration in the berries.

The vintage

The year began with a warm, dry winter and early spring, followed by welcome rains in March that allowed for an even flowering in May. Summer proved contrasting, with a stormy June giving way to a milder late summer. Finally, a heatwave in September perfected the ripening of the grapes just before an early harvest that began in mid-September.

Winemaking and aging

Following early-morning hand-picked harvesting, the grapes destined for this Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2024 are entirely destemmed. A cold maceration lasting about a week precedes a long fermentation designed to extract structure and colour. The wine is then aged for nearly twelve months in medium-toast French oak barrels, with a proportion of 50% new barrels and 50% barrels that have previously held one or two wines.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
