The authentic and structured expression of a great red wine from Burgundy

The estate

Built in 1990, the Château de Marsannay is located at the gates of Dijon, marking the first stage of the famous Route des Grands Crus in Burgundy. While its lands boast a heritage dating back to the sixteenth century, the modern estate has established itself as a benchmark in France. Acquired in 2012 by its current owner Olivier Halley, the vineyard stands out for its deep commitment to agroecology. Fully certified in organic farming, the estate produces high-quality cuvées that respect the unique identity of each terroir.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the climat Les Favières, a 0.7-hectare terroir divided into three plots nestled on the heights of the slopes of the Marsannay appellation. Benefiting from a favorable east to southeast exposure, the vines thrive on soils composed of marls with fossilized oysters and entroque limestone, scattered with pebbles. This singular geology imparts remarkable minerality and structure to the cuvée.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by a particularly hot and dry summer period. However, generous rainfall in June provided the vines with the necessary water reserves to withstand this drought. These climatic conditions ensured impeccable sanitary quality and promoted rapid ripening at the end of August, leading to an early harvest that began on September 9.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes intended for the Marsannay Village "Les Favières" 2023 are harvested by hand and then meticulously sorted. After partial destemming, the berries undergo optimal cold maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Extraction is carried out with precision through regular punch-downs and pump-overs during fermentation. The wine is then aged for 13 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new, before resting for an additional three months in bulk following gentle pressing.

Grape variety

100% pinot noir.
