Description
Tasting Characteristics and Advice for Château de Tracy's 101 Rangs 2020
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue, illuminated by brilliant green and grey glints.
Nose
Intense and remarkably complex, the bouquet opens with delicate floral notes reminiscent of hawthorn and elderflower, mingled with hints of rhubarb. With a little aeration, it reveals mouth-watering aromas of candied citrus and exotic fruits such as mango, enriched by subtle spicy, toasted and roasted hazelnut nuances.
Palate
The attack is direct and lively, giving way to a fleshy, ample mid-palate with a lovely richness. The finish lingers, carried by a nervous tension, a pronounced salinity and refreshing citrus zest.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with noble shellfish such as spiny lobster or crayfish, as well as with fatty fish like salmon. It will also enhance gourmet seafood-inspired dishes, a scallop carpaccio with citrus, herb-roasted poultry, or fresh goat's cheese.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the 101 Rangs 2020, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 12°C, after decanting for about thirty minutes. This age-worthy wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop its complexity until around 2030.
The Aromatic Richness and Tension of a Great Pouilly-Fumé White Wine
The Estate
Located in Tracy-sur-Loire, in the Loire region, Château de Tracy boasts a winemaking heritage dating back to 1396. However, the estate's founding in its modern form dates back to 1950, thanks to the initiative of Jacqueline de Tracy and Alain d'Assay. Today, Juliette d'Assay heads the family estate. This 33-hectare vineyard, overlooked by a medieval keep, stands out for its exclusive focus on white wines. Certified High Environmental Value, the estate combines historical depth with precision viticulture.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from a single, historic plot within the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, located on the Tracy hillside. Planted in 1954, these old vines benefit from an ideal south-west exposure and thrive on clay-and-flint soils. The estate practises sustainable viticulture here and drastically limits yields to encourage optimal berry concentration.
The Vintage
The year was marked by warm weather conditions, allowing for remarkable natural ripeness. The harvest, carried out early in mid-September, produced perfectly healthy and well-balanced fruit.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes destined for the 101 Rangs 2020 undergo a rigorous double sorting process, first in the vineyard and then berry by berry in the cellar. After gentle, slow pressing, the musts are vinified separately. Ageing takes place on the lees for around nine months, in tanks and oak barrels (a small proportion of which are new), with regular lees stirring to add texture before the final blending.
