Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Clos des Quarts" Monopole 2023 from Château des Quarts

Tasting

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with harmonious notes of stone fruit, dominated by white peach, highlighted by delicate oak. With aeration, subtle floral, mineral, and nutty nuances emerge.

Palate
The palate stands out for its superb breadth and generous texture, perfectly balanced by vibrant freshness. Iodine and saline touches reflect the limestone identity of the terroir. The long, mouthwatering finish reveals a persistent mineral salinity, enriched with delicate spicy, toasted, and umami notes.

Food and wine pairings

This great white wine enhances shellfish such as lobster or scallops, as well as fine fish like turbot. It also pairs beautifully with Bresse chicken in cream and mushrooms, or aged cheeses such as Reblochon.

Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate the complexity of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Clos des Quarts" Monopole 2023, it is recommended to serve it between 12 and 14°C. With excellent aging potential, it can be cellared until around 2033.

The singular expression of a great white wine from Burgundy by Château des Quarts

The estate

Founded in 2011, the Château des Quarts is the result of an exceptional partnership between two emblematic figures of Burgundy: Olivier Merlin, current president, and Dominique Lafon, managing director. United by a shared vision, they acquired this estate located in the Mâconnais to restore the prestige of a forgotten historic terroir. This confidential 2.23-hectare vineyard perfectly illustrates the excellence and expertise of these two winemakers, dedicated to crafting cuvées of remarkable precision and complexity.

The vineyard

Located in Chaintré, at the extreme south of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, this 2.23-hectare monopole is enclosed by a historic stone wall. Facing south-southeast on a gentle slope at 230 meters altitude, the vines thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in fossil limestone. This exceptional terroir is home to very old vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1917, grown at high density and without any chemical weed killers.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by a particularly hot and sunny summer season. These favorable weather conditions promoted rapid and optimal ripening of the grapes, leading to early harvests carried out between the end of August and the beginning of September.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes destined for the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Clos des Quarts" Monopole 2023 are pressed as whole bunches for gentle extraction. After light settling in stainless steel tanks, alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in French oak barrels. Aging continues in these same barrels for 18 months, with a single racking to preserve the fine lees.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
