Decanter

Wonderful fragrance on the nose, smells gorgeous with ripe back fruit and wild purple flowers. Sapid and lithe, this is fresh and so fruity - really forward and alive. So juicy, almost tart but more like freshly picked strawberry juice with a citrus tang to the acidity as well as a chalky base. Mouthwatering but also ripe in terms of fleshy tannins and fresh acidity. A lovely combination with a lot going on. So ripe in terms of texture - velvety and almost creamy - but so fresh - cool mint, aniseed, slate and flint with that liquorice bite on the finish. A yield of 39hl/ha. 3.50pH.

Flowers, licorice, and dark, black cherries with a hint of truffle show easily in the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is loaded with sweet, creamy, juicy, black cherries, plums, and the right amount of chocolate to round everything out. The wine is a blend of 85% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Franc. 14% ABV. The wine is produced from some of the oldest vines in the appellation, with vines dating back to 1870! Drink from 2028-2042. 92-94 Pts

Vivid and bright violet, red cherry, saffron, anise, lemongrass, slate, a ton of definition, if austere at this early stage. New winery since September 2023. Juliette Bécot owner. An excellent estate that 8 years ago began a vineyard restructuration, letting certain plots rest for 5-6 years, plus new massal selection of Cabernet Franc. High vineyard at 130m altitude, and this is a reflection of its soils. 39 hl/ha. 3.50 pH. Harvest September 14 to 19. Thomas Duclos consultant.

So much clarity and complexity, with a clear focus on freshness. The bouquet reveals notes of pepper, black and red berries, iris, then a touch of mint. The velvety, silky attack paves the way for an elegant, inviting wine, supported by compact, vigorous tannins. Together with the bright acidity, they build a precious framework that enhances both expression and length, as well as ageing potential. A mouthwatering, sapid wine to enjoy both young and with some bottle age. A great success!

Deep, intense color. Very aromatic nose with pure fruit. Succulent, fragrant palate, with a lovely smooth tannic texture and, above all, plenty of flavor. It’s very good. Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.45. Yield: 37 hl/ha.

Description

The structure and aromatic framework of a Côtes de Castillon wine

The estate

Acquired in 2001 by the Bécot family, Château Joanin Bécot is a wine estate located in the Côtes de Castillon, east of Bordeaux. Under the impetus of Juliette Bécot, the estate stands out for its commitment to showcasing the appellation through demanding and innovative winemaking methods, while respecting the family heritage and the authenticity of its terroir.

The vineyard

The vineyard dedicated to this Château Joanin Bécot 2025 extends over 12.60 hectares of clay-limestone soils within the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The vines, with an average age of around 40 years, benefit from a terroir comparable to that of the neighbouring Saint-Émilion, creating optimal conditions for the development of the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties planted there.

Vinification and ageing

Plot-by-plot vinification combined with hand-performed punching down. Maceration of approximately 40 days. Malolactic fermentation carried out in vats. Alcohol content: 14% vol.

Blend

This Château Joanin Bécot 2025 is the result of a blend composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
