Lushly textured, deep red fruits, licorice, cocoa, flowers and stone create the makeup. The tannins are soft, polished and round, and the garden-fresh fruit quickly shows a sweetness. And on the finish, there is an interesting touch of salt in the tannins that complements the ripe red berries.

Logo on the cork: AL Dark, glossy, youthful color. Beautifully fine, subtle, and noble nose, underpinned by cherry and floral notes. Delicately fleshy on the attack, silky at mid-palate, the wine melts into a very flavorful and particularly pleasing finish. With this vintage, the cru breaks away from the austerity we had become accustomed to. Long, very good, with class and breed in the texture.

90–92. Barrel Sample. Fine tannins and ripe fruit are strong elements in this complex wine. With a solid, dense texture, juicy acidity and a dark core of tannins, it is a wine that will age, so hold until 2023.

Description

The Suppleness and Compexity of an Unmissable Grand Cru of Saint-Emilion

A Grand Cru Classé of the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux region, Château Le Prieuré is one of the most essential historic properties of the appellation, with a vineyard whose origins date back to the 16th century.

Expressing the classic style of Saint-Émilion, the wines made by the talented young oenologist Pénélope Godefroy highlight the precision and improvement in quality of the wines in recent years. And this new 2017 vintage confirms it.

In the process of organic conversion and already following biodynamic practices, Château Le Prieuré extends over a superb vineyard of 6.24 ha, divided into 19 parcels. This precise micro-plot approach to viticulture results in a beautiful expression of this exceptional terroir.

Although the devastating frost of April 2017 did not spare the vineyard of Château Le Prieuré, the vines located in the best terroirs represented in the estate’s Grand Vin were lucky enough to survive.

The blend is typical of the Saint-Émilion appellation (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc). Château Le Prieuré 2017 emphasises a more precise style achieved by the property in a wine of great elegance and class.

The Château Le Prieuré 2017 expresses the typical characteristics of its vintage by presenting the brilliant freshness of the fruit upon what is already a very complex aromatic palette. On the palate, the wine presents a beautiful dense texture, supported by a nice tannic structure with great flexibility. A simply unmissable Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé.
