The Elegance of a Great Limestone Terroir in Saint-Émilion
The Estate
Located in the heart of the prestigious Bordeaux region, the Château Villemaurine is a historic gem whose vineyard was unified in its current form in 1893. Now managed by the Lefevere family, this exceptional estate enjoys a prime location in immediate proximity to the famous medieval town. Renowned for its excellence, it is distinguished by a constant pursuit of quality, combining a centuries-old heritage with modern facilities to enhance its unique terroir.
The Vineyard
The estate covers a single 7.30-hectare block under production, ideally located on the renowned plateau of Saint-Émilion. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on a subsoil of asteriated limestone, ensuring excellent natural water regulation. Certified HVE 4, the estate is committed to a rigorous environmental approach, favoring manual soil work, careful canopy management, and a reasoned use of plant protection treatments.
The Vintage
The growing season began under the best auspices, with a particularly healthy spring. It then continued with a summer marked by intense heat. Faced with these demanding climatic conditions, harvest dates were carefully adjusted to ensure optimal berry ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
The harvest was carried out manually in small crates between September 10 and 22. After double sorting, both manual and density-based, the berries are transferred into vats by gravity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled double-walled stainless steel tanks of 68 hectoliters as well as in wooden vats, with punch-downs and pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrels. Finally, the wine is aged using 50% new French oak barrels, 30% small wooden vats, and 20% once-used barrels.
Grape Varieties
The blend of this Château Villemaurine 2025 consists of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
