Description
A fruity, exceptionally elegant red wine from Red Mountain
The estate
Col Solare was born from the partnership between two internationally renowned producers, each highly influential in their respective regions and countries: the Italian producer Marchesi Piero Antinori (Tuscany) and the American estate Chateau Ste. Michelle (Washington), one of the oldest and most highly regarded wineries in the United States. This partnership gave rise in 1995 to the first vintage of Col Solare, an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon produced on the exceptional terroir of Red Mountain. For more than 10 years now, through a great vineyard and meticulous winemaking, this collaboration has showcased the subtle alliance between the aesthetics, traditions and resolutely modern vision of these two renowned winemakers.
The wine
The 2017 Col Solare Cabernet Sauvignon comes from 4 vineyards: Col Solare (36%), Quintessence (34%), Shaw 32 (26%) and Kiona (4%).
The vintage
2017 was marked by very cool weather conditions. These conditions delayed ripening and affected yields, while preserving the fresh fruit aromas, concentration and appealing acidity typical of Washington State wines.
Vinification and ageing
The wine is aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (100% new).
Blend
The 2017 Col Solare Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (97%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
Tasting
This 2017 Col Solare Cabernet Sauvignon captivates with its aromatic palette, blending fruity notes (blackcurrant, dried fruit, cherry) with hints of aniseed, spice and cocoa. The tannins are delicate and remarkably refined.
