Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Puligny-Montrachet Village 2023 from Domaine Benoît Ente

Tasting Notes

Appearance
The colour reveals a medium yellow hue, enhanced by delicate golden reflections.

Nose
The bouquet is intense and harmonious. It exudes aromas of citrus, green apple, quince and white peach, mingled with notes of white flowers. The whole is underscored by a chalky minerality along with subtle touches of hazelnut and toasted bread.

Palate
Energetic and vibrant, the palate offers a dynamic structure carried by a finely chiselled acidity. It unfolds fruity flavours and a pronounced minerality, enriched by a slight smoky intensity. The finish, remarkably persistent, stands out for its tension and its lingering salinity.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with fine fish such as turbot or sole meunière, as well as with shellfish like scallops or lobster. It will also brilliantly accompany poultry or white meats in creamy, mushroom-based sauces, or refined vegetable dishes such as a root vegetable risotto.

Serving and Ageing

To fully appreciate this Puligny-Montrachet Village 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, after allowing it to breathe for one to two hours in the bottle or in a decanter. Boasting fine ageing potential, it can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2033.

The Quintessence of a Great Puligny-Montrachet Terroir

The Estate

Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy (France), Domaine Benoît Ente was founded in 1990 when Benoît Ente took over the family vines. Still run today by Benoît Ente, this small artisanal estate of around six hectares has established itself as an essential reference. The winemaker tends his vines with extreme care, applying the principles of organic viticulture. The estate is particularly renowned for its white wines of great purity, combining aromatic precision with mineral tension.

The Vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from seven small plots spread across the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. This terroir benefits from a continental climate and is characterised by predominantly limestone soils, sometimes mixed with clay-limestone marl and stones, ensuring excellent drainage. The vines, some of which were planted in 1943, are cultivated at a high planting density. The vineyard is managed according to organic and environmentally friendly practices, with grapes harvested by hand in small crates.

Winemaking and Ageing

The philosophy in the cellar aims to preserve the wine's tension and balance through a minimal-intervention approach. For this Puligny-Montrachet Village 2023, the winemaking process takes place over an extended period. Ageing is carried out with measured care for 16 months in oak barrels, before being completed with a period in tanks. This alternation helps refine the wine's texture while preserving its purity and mineral brilliance.
