Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Faustine "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 by Abbatucci
Tasting
Colour
The wine shows a cherry hue enhanced by brilliant ruby highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great complexity, blending scents of wild red and black fruits, such as myrtle, with notes of pepper, leather, clove and sweet spices reminiscent of the maquis.
Palate
Ample and structured, the palate offers a velvety texture supported by fine, silky tannins. The balance is remarkable, leading to a long, intense finish dominated by black fruits and spices.
Food and Wine Pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted meats, characterful charcuterie with smoky accents, and mature pressed-curd cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
Faustine "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 can be enjoyed in its youth to make the most of its vibrant fruit, but it also has excellent ageing potential, allowing it to evolve favourably over several years.
The Authentic Expression of a Red Wine Crafted by Abbatucci
The Estate
Founded in 1950, Comte Abbatucci is now run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci, joined by his daughter Faustine. The estate extends over around one hundred hectares, of which about twenty are planted with vines. The domaine is renowned for its ampelographic conservatory, a veritable sanctuary dedicated to preserving ancient indigenous grape varieties. This holistic approach makes it possible to produce wines with a strong sense of identity, faithfully reflecting the richness of the island terroir.
The Vineyard
The vines thrive on slopes of sandy granitic arènes, at an altitude of between 100 and 150 metres. This poor, free-draining terroir is farmed biodynamically, incorporating work with draught horses and the presence of sheep in winter to preserve soil life. This cuvée is produced as a Vin de France, illustrating the freedom of expression sought by the winemaker.
The Vintage
The 2025 vintage stands out for the considerable ripeness of its berries, most likely influenced by the warm, sunny weather typical of the region. These conditions allowed optimal concentration to be achieved while preserving the natural balance of the grapes.
Vinification and Maturation
The Faustine "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 harvest is received by gravity, then destemmed without being crushed. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. Skin maceration of around one month takes place in concrete tanks, punctuated by daily pump-overs. The wine is then aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for approximately six months, before undergoing a light clarifying filtration at bottling.
