Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Justice" 2023 Domaine de la Vougeraie

Tasting

Colour
A brilliant red with clear, luminous ruby reflections.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is deep and complex, combining elegant notes of red and black fruits such as cherry and blackberry. Subtle woody and spicy touches intertwine with a fine mineral tension, with a promising evolution toward delicate animal nuances.

Palate
The palate opens smooth and silky, revealing a generous, refined texture in the mid-palate. The tannins, fine and perfectly integrated, support a vibrant freshness. The finish stands out for its persistent length, marked by fruit and the emergence of light spices.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled red meats such as lamb, as well as game like roast pheasant or duck with fruit. It also enhances traditional poultry dishes, such as coq au vin or white meats in cream and mushroom sauce, not to mention soft Burgundian cheeses.

Service and Storage

To fully enjoy the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Justice" 2023, serving between 15 and 16°C is recommended, with slight aeration in the glass to release its aromas. Approachable from today, this wine will reveal its full complexity over time and can be kept until around 2045.

Other Characteristics

This wine has a moderate alcohol content of 13 degrees, achieved naturally through optimal berry ripeness, without any recourse to chaptalization.

The Authentic Expression of a Great Gevrey-Chambertin Terroir

The Estate

Officially founded in 1999 by the Boisset family, Domaine de la Vougeraie is located in Premeaux-Prissey, in the heart of Burgundy. Now run by Jean-Charles and Nathalie Boisset, the estate spans 44 hectares divided into 72 parcels between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. As the largest certified organic and biodynamic producer in the Côte d'Or, the estate stands out for its respectful approach to living organisms, seeking to express the quintessence of each terroir through natural methods and a strict lunar calendar.

The Vineyard

This cuvée comes from the historic climat "La Justice", located on the alluvial cone of the Combe de Lavaux, in Gevrey-Chambertin. This small 0.66-hectare plot, east-facing, rests on alluvial soils rich in small rounded pebbles that provide excellent drainage. The vines, planted in the mid-1960s, are cultivated according to the strict principles of biodynamics, including horse ploughing and the use of natural plant-based preparations to stimulate soil vitality.

The Vintage

The 2023 vintage was marked by a hot, dry summer, fortunately tempered by welcome rainfall in June. These climatic conditions helped avoid water stress and maintain exceptional vine health. The grapes were thus able to reach optimal ripeness, yielding moderate quantities but great concentration, while preserving fine balance and great freshness.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Justice" 2023 are harvested by hand into small perforated crates. The berries are fully destemmed here. After a cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation begins naturally with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, accompanied by measured manual punching down and pumping over. Pressing is carried out gently using a vertical pneumatic press. Aging lasts between 12 and 18 months in oak barrels (about 20% of which are new, sourced from the Cîteaux forest), before bottling by gravity during a waning lunar phase.
