Characteristics and tasting notes of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2023
Tasting
Appearance
The wine unveils a deep ruby-red hue.
Nose
Powerful, the nose reveals a complex bouquet blending aromas of ripe fruit with warm spicy notes and toasted touches derived from its time in oak.
Palate
The attack is clean and supple, paving the way for a palate that combines beautiful vibrancy with singular elegance. The mouth unfolds flavours of black fruits supported by fine, silky tannins. As the tasting progresses, this wine reveals a perfect balance between power and refinement.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich game such as hare stew or roast venison, as well as grilled red meats. It also enhances more delicate preparations such as beef carpaccio, dishes based on mushrooms or truffles, and perfectly accompanies dark-fleshed poultry such as roast or confit duck.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is advisable to serve this wine between 14 and 16°C, ideally in a glass with a wide bowl narrowing at the top. Approachable from its youth, this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2023 boasts a solid structure that allows it to evolve in the cellar and be enjoyed until around 2043.
The alliance of power and elegance in a Premier Cru from Nuits-Saint-Georges
The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is a historic institution located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, France. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Ève Faiveley, the estate extends over a vast vineyard across Burgundy. Combining respect for tradition with a modern vision, the domaine stands out for its environmental commitment.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a plot located within the "Les Saint-Georges" Climat, in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Facing south-east, the vines enjoy optimal sunshine while retaining a lovely freshness. The terroir consists of complex soils blending marls, limestone debris and clay. The vineyard is home to vines of varying ages, thereby enhancing the concentration of aromas.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was marked by climatic conditions that fostered excellent ripeness of the berries. This growing cycle produced rich grapes, allowing efficient fermentations while preserving the tension characteristic of the region.
Winemaking and aging
The crafting of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2023 relies on meticulous extraction techniques during maceration and fermentation. An extended maceration helps forge a tannic structure suited to ageing, while maturation in oak barrels enriches the aromatic profile with subtle spicy and toasted notes.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
