Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Segna de Cor 2023 Domaine Le Roc Des Anges

Tasting

Colour
Deep red in colour, this wine leans towards ruby with subtle purple hues.

Nose
Intensely aromatic, the bouquet reveals a complexity of crushed red fruits, blueberry and morello cherry, enhanced by notes of vanilla and dark chocolate. With aeration, hints of garrigue, pine needles and a lovely stony minerality unfold.

Palate
Fresh and dynamic, the attack offers a supple texture supported by fine, powdery tannins. Aromas of ripe fruit intertwine with floral notes of violet and spice, leading to a finish stretched out by a lovely mineral and saline energy.

Food and wine pairing

Ideal for a convivial aperitif or tapas, this cuvée also pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, duck breast, lamb chops or a charcuterie board.

Service and storage

The Segna de Cor 2023 can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2033. For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17°C.

The authentic and generous expression of a Roussillon wine

The estate

Founded in 2001 by Marjorie Gallet, Domaine Le Roc Des Anges quickly established itself as an essential reference in the Roussillon. Joined by her husband Stéphane in 2008, the founder developed a vineyard of around forty hectares farmed biodynamically. In late 2023, a major transition took place with the sale of the majority stake to Thibault Ponthier, the current owner, who now runs the estate with the support of the founding couple. The estate stands out for its minimalist approach and its commitment to letting the purity of its Mediterranean terroirs express itself.

The vineyard

This wine, made under the IGP Côtes Catalanes, comes from around twenty small plots located in the communes of Latour-de-France and Montner. The vines, averaging thirty to forty years old, thrive on the northern slopes of Mont Força Réal. This distinctive, wind-swept terroir is composed of ancient, decomposed schist with a sandy tendency. Farmed biodynamically, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional setting where Mediterranean influences meet the coolness of the Pyrenean foothills.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested grapes undergo partial destemming. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, with whole or semi-whole bunches. During the ten to fifteen days of maceration, no mechanical intervention such as punching down or pumping over is carried out, in order to preserve the freshness of the fruit. The wine is then aged on the lees for about nine months in concrete tanks, before light filtration and bottling.

Grape varieties

Grenache Noir (40%), Carignan (30%), Syrah (30%).
