Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 2022 Domaine Perrot-Minot

Tasting notes

Colour
A deep ruby hue reveals itself, reflecting a beautiful concentration.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great complexity, blending scents of small red fruits such as cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry, with subtle floral touches of violet and wild rose. The whole is enhanced by delicate hints of vanilla, undergrowth and a singular mineral edge reminiscent of iron.

Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a silky texture and a structure perfectly balanced between depth and delicacy. The tannins prove wonderfully refined. A lovely vibrancy brings energy to the tasting experience, stretching towards a persistent finish with delicious notes of ripe fruit and minerality.

Service and storage

This Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 2022 is built for long-term ageing. It can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2049, with a peak expected between 2032 and 2042.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as truffled poultry, game meats like venison fillet or duck stew, as well as veal sweetbreads with mushrooms. It will also enhance a platter of aged, washed-rind cheeses, such as soumaintrain.

The elegance and purity of a grand cru from Domaine Perrot-Minot

The estate

While the family's first winegrowing traces date back to the eighteenth century, the true origins of the modern estate go back to the mid-nineteenth century. Located in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Perrot-Minot today spans eight hectares across some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. Since 1993, Christophe Perrot-Minot has run the estate with an uncompromising vision focused on excellence. Under his leadership, the estate has adopted organic farming, favouring very low yields to reveal the purest and most authentic expression of its terroirs.

The vineyard

This Charmes-Chambertin comes from a small 0.80-hectare plot with vines around fifty years old. Ideally exposed to the east to benefit from the morning sun, they thrive on shallow, stony soils composed of reddish rendzinas, marls and outcropping limestone rocks.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by contrasting weather conditions. After a wet autumn and a very cold December, the end of winter proved particularly mild. A very sunny spring gave way to significant summer drought. Despite these challenges, the old vines showed great resilience, yielding grapes of impeccable health quality at harvest in late August.

Winemaking and ageing

The hand-harvested berries undergo a rigorous double sorting. The grapes, fully destemmed but not crushed, are transferred to vat by gravity. Maceration lasts nineteen days, beginning with a cold phase, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts punctuated by gentle punching down of the cap. Ageing takes place on the lees for fifteen months in delicately toasted French oak barrels. Bottling is carried out by gravity after light filtration.

Grape variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
