Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Pinot Noir L'Eterno 2019 from Feudi del Pisciotto

Tasting

Appearance

The color displays an intense ruby red hue with garnet highlights.

Nose

The nose reveals lovely aromatic complexity. Notes of fresh red fruits unfold with elegance, evoking ripe raspberry, cherry, and strawberry. Floral nuances of violet and rose accompany these fruity aromas. Aging in barrels brings spicy touches of cinnamon and clove, along with notes of tobacco and dried herbs. With aeration, tertiary aromas of mushroom and undergrowth emerge, rounded out by a subtle smoky touch.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is both supple and fleshy. The tannic structure charms with its refinement and velvety texture, without ever showing any hint of bitterness. The well-integrated acidity brings freshness and maintains a harmonious balance. The finish is long and captivating, with lingering notes of fruit and spices. Overall, it expresses a pronounced Burgundian character, favoring elegance and finesse over power.

Food and wine pairings

This Pinot Noir pairs perfectly with roast duck, whose richness harmonizes with the wine’s tannic structure. It also goes very well with lamb prepared with Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary or thyme. Aged, structured cheeses make an excellent match. Dishes featuring wild mushrooms—especially in risotto or as an accompaniment to pasta—resonate beautifully with the wine’s tertiary aromas. Salmon and fatty fish also pair well with this cuvée.

Serving and cellaring

The Pinot Noir L'Eterno 2019 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Decanting for one hour helps aerate the wine and fully reveal its aromatic range.

A Sicilian Pinot Noir with a pronounced Burgundian character

The estate

Feudi del Pisciotto was founded in the early 2000s by Paolo Panerai, a Milanese entrepreneur and owner of the Domini Castellare di Castellina group. The vineyards were replanted starting in 2002 over 44 hectares, with a first production in 2004. Located in Niscemi in the province of Caltanissetta in Sicily, the estate occupies a historic site whose original palmento dates back to the 1700s. The property stands out for its environmental commitment, its gravity-flow winemaking system, and its collaboration with leading Italian fashion designers for its labels. Sales of the Grandi Stilisti collection fund the restoration of Sicily’s artistic heritage. Today, Paolo Panerai oversees all four estates within the group.

The vineyard

The Pinot Noir vines dedicated to L'Eterno are planted on the Piano Spineto plateau, at around 270 meters above sea level. The vineyard enjoys a privileged location, just 5 to 7 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. The soils are made up of medium-textured earth enriched with coarse mineral fragments, which promote drainage and the absorption of mineral elements. This plot was planted in 2002. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by intense sunshine and regular sea breezes, allows Pinot Noir to express itself with elegance. The estate is certified Terre Siciliane IGT and practices environmentally respectful viticulture, near the Sughereta di Niscemi nature reserve.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage in Sicily sits between the exceptional 2018 and the 2020 vintage, marked by rainfall at harvest time. This year offered balanced conditions, allowing optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest was carried out by hand in early September, when phenolic maturity and sugar concentration reached their ideal balance point.

Winemaking and aging

After a manual harvest in small crates, the grapes for the Pinot Noir L'Eterno 2019 are brought to the roof of the winery and then descend by gravity into the underground fermentation tanks. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at temperatures between 18 and 20°C, thus preserving the delicate aromas of Pinot Noir. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in the same vessels. The wine is then transferred to new French oak barrels from the Allier and Tronçais forests for twelve months of aging. An additional six months of rest in bottle precede release, allowing full integration of the wine’s various aromatic components.
