Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Saint-Joseph Maison 2024 Les Alexandrins

Tasting

Color
Deep red in color with ruby and violet hues, it verges toward black at its core, with subtle garnet nuances along the edges.

Nose
Intense and complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of black fruits such as cherry, blackcurrant and plum. It is then enriched with spicy, peppery and toasted touches, complemented by delicate scents of thyme, rose petals, incense and mint.

Palate
Both powerful and easy-drinking, the palate offers an elegant structure carried by precise, present and delicate tannins. The mid-palate reveals delicious notes of black fruits, pepper and smoked meats, extending into a long finish of great mineral freshness.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with grilled meats or dishes in sauce. It will also enhance game-based recipes (wild boar, venison, wild fowl), meats with Mediterranean herbs, or dishes featuring mushrooms, truffles or pepper sauces.

Service and storage

This Saint-Joseph Maison 2024 can be enjoyed now, but it also has fine aging potential, allowing it to be cellared until around 2032.

The perfect balance between power and minerality in a Saint-Joseph red wine

The estate

Born in 2015 from the merging of the expertise of Nicolas Jaboulet, Guillaume Sorrel and Alexandre Caso, Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins is based in Tain-l'Hermitage, at the heart of the Rhône Valley. Now chaired and managed by Marc-Olivier Perrin, the estate spans 78 hectares across several appellations. The domaine stands out for its philosophy combining contemporary classicism with deep respect for the terroir. By favoring a meticulous plot-by-plot approach, Les Alexandrins crafts wines that showcase the historic expression of this great French wine region.

The vineyard

The vineyards of the Saint-Joseph appellation stretch across some forty kilometers along the right bank of the river. The vines benefit from a favorable east and southeast exposure, maximizing morning sunlight. Planted at altitudes ranging from 150 to 400 meters, they thrive on a complex terroir composed of granitic rock. This unique geological substrate ensures excellent drainage and releases stored heat, giving the grapes optimal ripeness.

The vintage

The year 2024 demanded constant attention. After a mild winter, April was marked by frost episodes that affected flowering. Spring and early summer then experienced intense rainfall until mid-July, encouraging strong fungal pressure. Finally, a particularly dry August subjected the vines to water stress before harvest began around September 10, requiring exceptionally precise sorting.

Winemaking and aging

The making of this Saint-Joseph Maison 2024 favors natural fermentations with minimal intervention. Maceration and fermentation extend over about twenty days, punctuated by pumping-over early in the cycle, followed by punching down. Aging then takes place over twelve months in conical wooden vats, refining the wine's structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
