Decanter

Dark liquorice and blackcurrant on the nose with some dark chocolate. Tangy and lively, an instant buzz from the acidity with freshly picked, almost tart strawberries and cranberries but with a soft, creamy, smooth texture that balances out the expression. Fun, friendly, juicy and crisp - still a lot of tension and drive here but this will soften and settle a little over ageing. Really fine and approachable – easy drinking. I like this a lot. 3.53pH. Ageing 20% new oak.

Liquorice bud, slate, cassis, this is attractive, high acidities but well balanced with ripe fruits, plenty of momentum and pick up through the palate, just a little constricted on the finish.

Lots of freshness on the nose of Les Fiefs de Lagrange, with notes of blackberry and cedar, plus a touch of eucalyptus. The slightly creamy attack adds breadth. The tannins have grip and are in tune with the acidity, and the whole impresses with its harmony. A vibrant, mouthwatering, elegant and lingering wine to enjoy while young. An exciting, flavoursome wine.

Deep colour with bright highlights. An intense, fruity nose, pure and subtle. Delicate on entry, with freshness on the palate and a lovely presence, the wine bounces into the finish with riper, more hedonistic and ultimately charming aromas. Very good. Blend: 57% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.53 - IPT: 62. Yield: 32 hl/ha.

The charming and balanced expression of a great Saint-Julien terroir

The estate

The origins of Château Lagrange date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in 1855 that it gained its letters of nobility. Located in the heart of the Bordeaux region, this 108-hectare vineyard experienced a true renaissance following its acquisition in 1983 by the Japanese group Suntory, its current owner. Now managed by Matthieu Bordes, the estate stands out for its commitment to expressing terroir and technical innovation, placing its wines among the essential references of the appellation.

The vineyard

Second wine of this Saint-Julien estate, the Fiefs de Lagrange cuvée is produced from vines averaging 30 years of age, planted on gravel mounds.

The vintage

The year 2025 was marked by overall very favorable weather conditions, beginning with a mild winter followed by a hot, dry summer season. September, characterized by cooler temperatures, played a crucial role in slowing the vegetative cycle. The harvest thus yielded small, highly concentrated berries, offering perfect balance and avoiding any excess power linked to the summer heat.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand and then carefully sorted, first manually and then by optical camera. Vinification is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis in more than one hundred temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Fermentation takes place between 26 and 28°C over 18 to 25 days, with moderate pump-overs, rack-and-returns or punch-downs. After malolactic fermentation by co-inoculation and early blending in January, the wine is aged for 13 months. This aging is divided between 80% barrels of one to three wines, 10% new oak barrels and 10% amphorae.

Grape varieties

Fiefs de Lagrange 2025 is a blend of merlot (57%), cabernet sauvignon (33%) and petit verdot (10%).
