Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2018 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a deep ruby red hue, adorned with garnet reflections, offering beautiful clarity and remarkable brilliance.
Nose
Highly expressive, the nose unveils a rich bouquet of red and black fruits (raspberry, cherry, blackberry, redcurrant) harmoniously intertwined with delicate floral notes of rose and violet. Subtle woody touches, evoking vanilla and sweet spices, elegantly round out the whole.
Palate
The supple attack gives way to an ample, generous and velvety palate. The silky texture is supported by fine, ripe tannins that are perfectly integrated. The balance is remarkable, leading to a long, persistent finish with delicious fruity, floral and mineral notes.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with delicate meats such as duck breast with red fruits, veal fillet with mushrooms or roast pigeon. It also enhances feathered game as well as soft cheeses of moderate intensity, such as an aged Reblochon or a truffled Brillat-Savarin. Vegetarian dishes featuring mushrooms, roasted root vegetables or truffle also make excellent pairings.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2018, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, ideally in a large-bowled Burgundy wine glass. Opening the bottle one hour before serving, or a very gentle decanting, will allow all its complexity to unfold. Approachable in its youth, this wine can be cellared until around 2028 to reveal more developed aromas.
The elegance and richness of a Premier Cru from Chambolle-Musigny
The estate
Although the family had been involved in viticulture since 1826, the Louis Jadot trading house was officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, at the heart of Burgundy. Now led by Pierre-Henry Gagey and owned by the American Kopf family since 1996, this historic institution oversees a vast vineyard of more than 200 hectares. Brilliantly combining négociant and estate activities, Louis Jadot stands out for its commitment to faithfully expressing the identity of each Burgundy terroir through wines of great qualitative consistency, celebrated internationally.
The vineyard
The "Les Charmes" Climat is a prestigious Premier Cru of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, located in the Côte de Nuits. Set mid-slope with an easterly exposure, this terroir stands out thanks to its shallow soils composed of limestone and marl, resting on a heavily fissured bedrock. The vines, trained using the Guyot method within a sustainable farming approach, benefit from controlled yields and manual harvests to preserve all the finesse and vibrancy of the fruit.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was marked by particularly warm and sunny weather, notably during the summer, which was characterised by heat and drought. These favourable climatic conditions allowed the grapes to reach optimal phenolic and aromatic ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
To craft this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2018, the grapes harvested at full ripeness undergo fermentation in vats, accompanied by a gentle maceration aimed at extracting colour and aromas while preserving the delicacy of the fruit. The wine then benefits from careful aging in oak barrels (of which around one third are new) for a period of twelve to fifteen months, structuring the whole with great elegance without masking the expression of the terroir.
