The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy, France. Based in the heart of Beaune, its winegrowing history nevertheless dates back to the 1820s with the acquisition of prestigious vineyards. Both an estate owner and a négociant-éleveur, the domain stands out for its deep respect for terroirs and its commitment to sustainable viticulture. Since 1985, the estate has belonged to the American group Kobrand Fine Wine & Spirits. It has nonetheless preserved its family spirit under the historic leadership of the Gagey family, today chaired by Thomas Seiter.

The vineyard

The Santenots climat, attached to the Volnay appellation, is located on the Côte de Beaune. This exceptional terroir rests on clay-limestone soils that give the grapes a perfect balance between power and delicacy. The House applies the principles of sustainable viticulture there, favouring mechanical soil work, controlled grass cover and the preservation of biodiversity in order to let the terroir express itself fully.

The vintage

2017 is recognised as a favourable vintage, marked by early ripening. The weather conditions produced grapes of fine overall quality, offering an intense aromatic expression and an ideal structure.

Winemaking and ageing

The creation of the Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots" 2017 begins with fermentation in vats, accompanied by a meticulous extraction aimed at preserving the finesse of the tannins. The wine then benefits from careful ageing in oak barrels, including a measured proportion of new wood, in order to bring complexity without masking the brightness of the fruit.
