A structured and elegant Grand Cru from the Côte de Nuits by Louis Max
The estate
Founded in 1859 in Nuits-Saint-Georges by Evgueni Louis Max, Louis Max is part of the tradition of Burgundy's great négociants-éleveurs. Since 2007, Jean-François Joliette has led this historic house and initiated a profound transformation of its viticultural approach. The entire vineyard, spanning approximately 230 to 250 hectares across Burgundy, Corbières and the Côtes du Rhône, is now certified organic by ECOCERT. In 2014, the arrival of David Duband as technical director marked a decisive turning point in the estate's winemaking philosophy.
The vineyard
Clos Vougeot is the largest Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits, with over fifty hectares. This historic vineyard, whose name comes from the small Vouge stream, is characterized by clay-limestone soils that give the wines structure and complexity. The plots from which this wine originates benefit from the exposure and geological richness that have made this prestigious appellation famous.
The vintage
The 2014 vintage in Burgundy is considered an excellent year. After a spring and early summer marked by mild and dry conditions, the weather allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes. This vintage stands out for its freshness, elegance and balance, producing aromatic wines with good aging potential.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of the Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2014 benefited from the new methods introduced by David Duband. Traditional aging takes place in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its complexity while preserving the expression of the terroir and the freshness of the fruit.
