Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" 2022 by Lucien Le Moine

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue.

Nose
The nose displays fine aromatic complexity, opening on intense notes of ripe fruit such as blackberry and cherry, subtly underscored by hints of liquorice.

Palate
Full-bodied and generous, the palate expresses remarkable purity with a pronounced minerality. It unfolds aromas of cherry, supported by a tannic structure that is both fine and firm, extending into a long finish.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with characterful meats such as venison, duck à l'orange or poultry served with a wine-reduction sauce. It also enhances aged cheeses with smoky or earthy notes, as well as rich seafood dishes such as shellfish in sauce.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" 2022, decanting for a few minutes to several hours is highly recommended to release the natural carbon dioxide. It is best served at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. With exceptional ageing potential, it can be cellared for approximately 20 to 30 years.

Other characteristics

This wine stands out for the complete absence of fining and filtration, preserving all its microelements. It also contains natural carbon dioxide from a deliberately delayed malolactic fermentation, acting as a natural protector.

The pure, structured expression of a great Corton wine by Lucien Le Moine

The estate

Founded in 1999 in Beaune, at the heart of Burgundy, the négociant-éleveur house Lucien Le Moine is run by its founders, Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin. Drawing on monastic and agronomic experience, the couple adopts a "haute couture" approach. Renowned worldwide for its exacting standards, the estate selects the finest crus of the region to craft wines of great purity, combining respect for age-old traditions with cutting-edge technical mastery, with no compromise on quality.

The vineyard

The "Clos du Roi" climat is located within the prestigious Corton appellation, benefiting from a rare south and south-east exposure at an altitude ranging between 250 and 330 metres. This historic terroir, a former royal plot in the fifteenth century, rests on reddish, stony soils composed of marl and Bathonian limestone. This land, rich in iron and potash, offers ideal conditions for the vines to thrive.

The vintage

2022 benefited from particularly favourable weather conditions. Despite a lack of rainfall at the start of the growing season, the year was marked by above-average temperatures and record sunshine, equivalent to an extra month of July. These conditions allowed for a very healthy harvest with satisfying yields.

Winemaking and ageing

For this Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" 2022, the grapes are acquired after maceration and fermentation. Ageing then takes place on the full lees, without any racking, with gentle and regular bâtonnage. The wine rests in bespoke barrels made from fine-grained Jupilles oak, slowly toasted over charcoal. Bottling is carried out by gravity, after the full moon, preserving the natural carbon dioxide resulting from a deliberately delayed malolactic fermentation.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
