Description

Tasting notes and recommendations for the Riesling "Lieu-dit Buehl" Domaine Schieferkopf 2025 by M. Chapoutier

Tasting

Appearance

The wine shows a beautiful brilliance, revealing a golden hue.

Nose

The initial nose is dominated by intensely toasted aromas, which evolve with aeration into notes of very ripe fruit, notably pineapple, bringing a lovely sense of indulgence.

Palate

The palate is full and generous, offering a rich and rounded texture. It is accompanied by mineral nuances reminiscent of flint, while the long, persistent finish stands out for its marked salinity.

A rich and indulgent Alsace riesling

The estate

While the M. Chapoutier House, emblematic of the Rhône, dates back to 1808, Domaine Schieferkopf was founded in 2009 in Alsace. Born from the collaboration of five enthusiasts, it is now led by Michel Chapoutier, a key figure, alongside his children Mathilde and Maxime. True to its convictions, the estate is farmed biodynamically in order to best reflect the authenticity of its terroir. The House also stands out for its commitment to inclusion, notably through the use of Braille on its labels since 1996.

The vineyard

Located in Bernardvillé, in Alsace, the lieu-dit Buehl corresponds to a small 1.2-hectare parcel situated at an altitude of 380 meters. Certified in organic and biodynamic farming, this vineyard is characterized by its steep south-facing slopes and deep soils composed of a single vein of Precambrian blue schist, over 542 million years old.

The vintage

The 2025 vintage is marked by great earliness, linked to a warm, dry spring and early summer, followed by a cooler, wetter end of the season. After a winter favorable to water reserves, the vine experienced rapid development, despite yields limited by the small size of the grape clusters. Rain at the end of July accelerated ripening, allowing harvesting to begin as early as September 16. The wines stand out for their finesse, precision, and tension, with beautiful aromatic intensity and well-preserved minerality.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for this Riesling "Lieu-dit Buehl" Domaine Schieferkopf are harvested by hand in small crates. In the cellar, they undergo a long pressing of around eight hours, followed by cold static settling. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures with indigenous yeasts, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on its lees for 15 months in large traditional wooden foudres.

Grape variety

This Riesling "Lieu-dit Buehl" Domaine Schieferkopf 2025 by M. Chapoutier is made exclusively from riesling.
