A structured and balanced Pinot Gris from Alsace, true to the Trimbach tradition
The estate
A historic reference in Ribeauvillé since 1626, Maison Trimbach embodies thirteen generations of passionate winemakers in Alsace. Established in the Haut-Rhin, this family-owned Maison has distinguished itself as one of the largest Grand Cru vineyard owners in the region. Today led by the thirteenth generation with Julien, Anne, Frédérique and Pauline Trimbach, the estate remains faithful to its philosophy rooted in balance, purity and the authentic expression of the Alsatian terroir. The domaine obtained organic certification in 2023 for all of its 65 hectares of vines.
The vineyard
This Alsace wine comes from vines located on the Ribeauvillé fault, an exceptional geological formation stretching from Rodern to Turckheim. The soils are primarily composed of limestone, sandstone, marl and clay, giving the wine its distinctive minerality. The vines benefit from optimal south and southeast exposure on the sub-Vosges hillsides. The particularly dry semi-continental climate, sheltered by the Vosges mountains, promotes ideal ripening of the grapes. The domaine practices organic viticulture with a high planting density and favors massal selection to preserve the genetic diversity of its vineyards.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage was marked by generous climatic conditions. The year saw exceptional sunshine and warm temperatures that promoted beautiful grape ripeness. These conditions yielded concentrated fruits while preserving the characteristic freshness sought by the Maison.
Winemaking and aging
The Pinot Gris "Réserve" 2018 was vinified according to the traditional methods of Maison Trimbach, prioritizing purity and balance. The winemaking aims to preserve the expression of the terroir and the grape variety while maintaining the mineral tension characteristic of the house style. The wine benefited from extended aging before release, in keeping with the domaine's practice of only releasing its wines after they have reached a certain degree of maturity.
