Description

The refinement and texture of an Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

The estate

Marilisa Allegrini leads this family-run House alongside her daughters Carlotta and Caterina. The Marilisa Allegrini group brings together three exceptional estates: Villa Della Torre in Veneto, Poggio Al Tesoro in Tuscany and San Polo in Montalcino. A pioneer in her field, Marilisa Allegrini became, in 2017, the first Italian woman in the wine industry to appear on the cover of Wine Spectator.

The vineyard

This wine from Veneto comes from the Villa Della Torre vineyard, a 10-hectare walled terroir nestled in Fumane di Valpolicella. Perched at an altitude of 124 metres on silty-clay soils over a limestone subsoil, the vineyard enjoys a particularly favourable east-south-east exposure. The average age of the vines is around ten years.

The wine

The label pays tribute to the Camino del Leone, one of the four majestic mascheroni fireplaces of Villa Della Torre. Attributed to Giovan Battista Scultori, these creations are remarkably unique, the Lion's Fireplace being the most grandiose of them all. Depicted with an open mouth in a roaring posture, it evokes the image of the devouring devil in biblical iconography.

Vinification and ageing

After a manual harvest in September and a rigorous optical sorting, the grapes undergo the traditional appassimento process for three months in carefully ventilated lofts. The fermentation of the Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2020 takes place in stainless steel and concrete vats for three weeks. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels of 10 to 25 hectolitres, followed by an additional 12 months of refinement in bottle.

Grape varieties

This Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2021 by Marilisa Allegrini is a blend of Corvinone, Corvina and Rondinella.
