Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for La Grenadière 2023 Mas Bruguiere

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals an intense garnet hue, enhanced by deep violet nuances.

Nose
Generous and remarkably fresh, the nose reveals a complex bouquet of red and black fruits such as blackcurrant and plum. It is enriched with notes of liquorice, peppery spices, olive tapenade and herbaceous touches reminiscent of garrigue, such as thyme and rosemary.

Palate
Brilliantly combining power and finesse, the palate offers a vibrant texture supported by fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The fruity, gourmand and generous expression is balanced by a lovely acidity that gives the wine remarkable freshness and a long-lasting finish.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with full-bodied meats and dishes in sauce. It will enhance game dishes such as saddle of venison with grand veneur sauce, wild boar daube or duck parmentier, as well as roasted beef cuts or recipes with Mediterranean influences.

The balance and freshness of an emblematic wine from the Languedoc

The estate

While the family's agricultural heritage dates back to 1259, the modern winemaking estate of Mas Bruguiere in France was established in the aftermath of the French Revolution. Located in the Languedoc, this estate experienced a true revival in 1974 under the impetus of Guilhem Bruguière. Today, Xavier Bruguière, representing the seventh generation, runs this twenty-hectare vineyard together with his wife Marjorie. As pioneers of environmentally responsible viticulture, they apply the principles of organic and biodynamic farming to produce authentic wines.

The vineyard

Nestled at the heart of the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, the vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate, situated between the mountain of the same name and the Hortus plateau. The vines, averaging around thirty years of age, thrive at altitudes ranging from 150 to 400 metres. The terroirs are divided between north-facing clay-limestone soils, ideal for Syrah, and deep south-facing limestone scree, perfect for Grenache. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the berries.

Winemaking and aging

The production of La Grenadière 2023 favours a minimal-intervention approach. After destemming, the berries are transferred by gravity into concrete vats. Fermentation takes place under strict temperature control, using indigenous yeasts and regular punching down for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for eighteen months in thirty-hectolitre wooden vats and casks, refining the structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit.

Grape varieties

This wine is made from a blend of Syrah (90%) and Grenache (10%).
