Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc 2020

Tasting

Nose
The bouquet is particularly expressive, unveiling seductive aromas of sun-ripened apricots, harmoniously underscored by delicate spicy touches.

Palate
The palate offers a precise balance, combining appealing richness with remarkable finesse. The whole is supported by a backbone of lovely freshness, stretching towards a vibrant, persistently long finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine is a pleasure to enjoy as an aperitif. At the table, it is an ideal companion to delicate dishes such as a cream of asparagus soup or fresh salmon cooked en papillote.

Serving and Cellaring

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. While it can be savoured in its youth to make the most of its vibrant fruit, it also has solid ageing potential, and may evolve towards more complex oxidative notes until around 2030.

Other Characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%, with a total acidity of 3.70 and a pH of 3.38. It also contains 6.4 g/l of residual sugar, while retaining a profile perceived as dry.

The Aromatic Richness and Freshness of an Atypical White Wine from the Languedoc

The Estate

Founded in 1971 by Véronique and Aimé Guibert, Mas de Daumas Gassac has established itself as a pioneer in the production of age-worthy wines in the Languedoc. Nestled in the heart of the upper Gassac valley, this family estate has built its reputation on a philosophy deeply respectful of nature and its environment. Today, the second generation, represented by the founders' sons (Samuel, Gaël, Amélien, Roman and Basile), oversees the estate's collective management, thus perpetuating the legacy and unique identity of this vineyard.

The Vineyard

The vineyard extends over around fifty hectares, divided into small clearings in the midst of a vast, protected garrigue forest. The vines, with an average age of 34 years, thrive on very well-draining glacial gravel soils. This singular terroir benefits from a cool, ventilated microclimate, regulated by the presence of underground cold-water springs, which helps maintain low yields of around 25 hl/ha and preserve the balance of the berries.

The Vintage

The 2020 vintage stood out for a harmonious and mild season, without climatic extremes. These ideal conditions allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while retaining a lovely acid tension. The harvest was carried out by hand over a short period, between the end of August and the first days of September.

Vinification and Ageing

The winemaking relies on specific methods, beginning with cold skin maceration (10°C) for five to seven days to extract the aromas. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks for approximately three weeks, at controlled temperatures. To preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir, no oak ageing is used. Finally, the wine undergoes double filtration before bottling.

Grape Varieties

28% Viognier, 23% Petit Manseng, 22% Chardonnay, 12% Chenin, 17% Marsanne, Roussanne, Petit Courbu, Muscat Petit Grain, Muscat of Alexandria, Gros Manseng, Semillon and Fiano.
