Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale golden yellow hue, luminous and brilliant.
Nose
The nose is particularly captivating and expressive, revealing aromas of fresh citrus fruits such as lemon and lime. Delicate floral notes of white flowers, jasmine and linden blossom emerge, accompanied by hints of dried fruits. The pronounced minerality reflects the limestone terroir from which this white wine originates.
Palate
The attack is lively and fresh, carried by a beautiful minerality that provides a vibrant foundation. The mid-palate is full, round and generous, with perfectly balanced acidity. The finish offers remarkable persistence, allowing the freshness and structure of this white Burgundy to fully express themselves.
Food and wine pairings
This Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Clos Saint-Philibert" Domaine Monopole 2021 pairs ideally with shellfish and seafood, particularly oysters, mussels and pan-seared prawns. It also goes beautifully with delicate fish dishes such as sole meunière with spinach and chanterelles, as well as fresh, light cheeses. This white wine can also be enjoyed as an aperitif.
Serving and storage
The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Clos Saint-Philibert" Domaine Monopole 2021 is best served at a temperature between 50 and 54°F. A mineral and fresh white from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits by Méo-Camuzet
The estate
Domaine Méo-Camuzet traces its origins to the early twentieth century with Étienne Camuzet, winegrower and member of parliament for the Côte-d'Or, who initiated the creation of the Appellations d'Origine in 1919. Passed on to Jean Méo in 1959, the estate officially took the name Méo-Camuzet in 1981. Since 1989, Jean-Nicolas Méo has led this family-owned property in Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, now cultivating approximately 21 hectares of vines. Trained under Henri Jayer, a legendary figure in Burgundian winemaking, Jean-Nicolas upholds a demanding viticultural philosophy that prioritizes yield limitation and minimally interventionist winemaking. The domaine is renowned for its grand crus and premiers crus from the Côte de Nuits, as well as for its sustainable approach to vineyard management, closely aligned with organic practices.
The vineyard
The Clos Saint-Philibert is an exclusive monopole of Domaine Méo-Camuzet. This 3.5-hectare plot is located 300 meters from Échezeaux, in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, at an altitude of approximately 380 meters. The vineyard benefits from a particularly favorable southeast-facing gentle slope. The thin, clay-limestone soil is covered with a layer of stones that promotes strong thermal reverberation. This distinctive feature, combined with the high altitude, allows for a longer ripening period than on the Côte itself. The Chardonnay vines, planted in the early 1990s, root deeply into this terroir to draw their nutrients, giving the wine a beautiful minerality and remarkable freshness.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a winter frost episode of rare intensity that affected the entire French vineyard. Spring then brought milder conditions, allowing flowering at the end of May. June and July proved particularly rainy, followed by weather instability between mid-July and mid-August. These climatic conditions gave rise to wines characterized by their freshness and tension, with a beautiful natural acidity.
Winemaking and aging
The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Clos Saint-Philibert" Domaine Monopole 2021 is harvested by hand. Traditional alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels with regular lees stirring, carried out slowly to enhance the wine's richness. The relatively short aging process is conducted in barrels of the finest wood to preserve all the freshness and minerality characteristic of this high-altitude terroir. The wine is bottled without systematic filtration or fining, allowing for natural sedimentation.
