Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Murgers" Domaine 2023 by Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
Deep, bright red in colour, this wine catches the light with elegance.
Nose
The bouquet opens with intense aromas of black cherry and blueberry, accompanied by delicate notes of rose petals, dried flowers and orange blossom. Subtle touches of graphite, vanilla and cigar box complete this ensemble, lending it a lovely mineral freshness.
Palate
The palate offers a beautiful balance between power and finesse. Refreshing acidity offsets a silky, generous texture on the mid-palate. The tannins, both grainy and well-integrated, provide a velvety sensation, leading to an energetic and precise finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with roasted or braised red meats, as well as game such as roe deer, pheasant or venison in sauce. It also pairs very well with duck with red berries, mushroom-based dishes such as porcini or truffles, or characterful cheeses such as Époisses.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, we recommend serving this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Murgers" Domaine 2023 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, taking care to decant it if enjoyed in its youth. This great wine will ideally rest in the cellar until around 2037, with the potential to evolve up to 2042.
Méo-Camuzet, an Emblematic Estate of Burgundy
The Estate
Founded in the early twentieth century by Étienne Camuzet, the estate officially took the name Méo-Camuzet in 1981. Located in Vosne-Romanée, at the heart of the Burgundian vineyards, this historic property spans just over sixteen hectares. Now run by Jean-Nicolas Méo, supported by Christian Faurois in the vineyard, the estate is renowned worldwide for its heritage of prestigious plots. A staunch advocate of environmentally friendly viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking, the estate produces sought-after wines that authentically and elegantly express the full complexity of their terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Premier Cru-classified climat "Aux Murgers" is located in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, on the border with Vosne-Romanée. Facing east on the lower part of the slope, the vines were planted between 1965 and 1972. They thrive on clay-limestone terroir, with the soils becoming sandier towards the top of the plot. This climat, known as one of the warmest and earliest-ripening in the area, is farmed using organic methods, with regular ploughing of the soil.
The Vintage
The year 2023 began with a warm, dry winter, leading to a late budbreak in early April that protected the vines from frost. The growing season continued with high temperatures, encouraging rapid and even flowering. However, the combination of intense heat and abundant rainfall led to particularly strong fungal disease pressure. Finally, a heatwave during the harvest allowed the berries to reach optimal concentration and richness.
Winemaking and Aging
The estate's philosophy favours a minimal-intervention approach. After hand-harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo a cold maceration of three to five days. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, with strict temperature control and light punching-down towards the end of the process. This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Murgers" Domaine 2023 is aged in oak barrels, with a controlled proportion of new wood. The wine is finally bottled without fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
