Decanter

Cola and salty edged blue fruit on the nose. Smells clean and crisp. Supple and lithe, this is creamy smooth with a softly chewy edge. This is really delicate and gentle, everything in place but nothing shouting. Clearly ripe fruit but well balanced with the cool freshness and licks of salty liquorice. This feels really hands off – a light touch in the winery for sure. Succulent and transparent. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

Licorice, black cherries, flowers, tobacco, and currants fill the perfume. The medium-bodied, elegant, soft-textured, palate delivers its message of sweet, ripe, silky, lifted fruits, with energy, allowing you to enjoy its fruity sweetness with ease. This is ready to enjoy on release, and for at least 12 or more years after that. The wine blends 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 14% Petit Verdot. 13.3% ABV. Drink from 2028-2039. 91-93 Pts

Intense, concentrated, blueberry, bilberry, cassis, blood orange, black liquorice, impressive, high acidity fruits, good quality. These have great ageing potential in their construction. 3.73pH. Harvest September 8 to 23, yield 20.38 hl/ha. Tasted twice.

From the outset, the bouquet highlights precision and detail. It certainly doesn’t hide its charming, inviting side, but it makes it clear that its ambition is first and foremost to convince. It’s very strategic; pleasure will come afterwards! With good density, the wine is supported by compact, velvety tannins that nevertheless show dimension. They provide power and staying power, in harmony with the freshness of an acidity that aptly outlines the wine’s contours. A structured, persistent wine.

A deep black-purple color. The nose is intense and refined, fruity, pure and subtle. Delicate on the attack, then fleshy and velvety through the mid-palate with a beautifully slow, unhurried progression, the wine builds in power. The finish is long, sappy and savory, with lingering persistence. Lovers of this wine will appreciate finding the stamp of the vintage and the refined way its power is expressed on the palate. Blend: 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 14% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13.31% - pH: 3.73 - IPT: 72. Yield: 20.38 hl/ha.

The elegance and freshness of a second wine from Saint-Julien

The estate
Classified as a Second Growth of the Médoc in 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré traces its origins back to the early 17th century. Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, in the heart of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, this emblematic estate is run with rigour and passion by the Cuvelier family. Bordered by famous neighbours such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Las Cases, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir composed of Garonne gravel soils, low in fertility but perfectly suited to quality viticulture. The plot-by-plot vinifications, overseen by the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland, aim to reveal with finesse the identity of each grape variety and each plot. The estate's wines captivate with their harmony, aromatic depth and controlled power.

The vineyard
The terroir dedicated to production extends over 60 hectares within the Saint-Julien appellation. The vines, averaging 45 years old, are planted at a density of 8,700 vines per hectare. They thrive on soils composed of Mindelian gravel terraces resting on a clay-sandy subsoil. The vines are managed traditionally with double Guyot pruning, comprehensive soil work, partial leaf removal depending on the plots, and the application of sexual confusion to protect biodiversity.

Vinification and ageing
To craft the Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré 2025, the bunches are hand-harvested in crates during successive passes within each plot. A double sorting, first manual on bunches and then optical on berries, ensures optimal quality. The harvest benefits from bioprotection using non-saccharomyces yeasts before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with selected yeasts, following a plot-by-plot approach. The wine is then aged for 18 months in second-fill barrels. ABV: 13.31%.
