Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for Pierre Girardin’s Vosne-Romanée Village “Les Hauts Beaumonts” 2021
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a deep ruby-red color with garnet highlights, reflecting fine intensity and well-controlled extraction.
Nose
The nose opens with elegant aromas of fresh red fruits, notably cherry and raspberry, complemented by delicate floral notes of lavender and rose. Spicy nuances of white pepper and clove gradually emerge, while a mineral dimension evocative of limestone brings complexity to the whole.
Palate
On the palate, this wine charms with its silky, velvety texture. The fruit expression highlights red cherry and red berries, enhanced mid-palate by touches of blackcurrant. The tannins, fine and well integrated, give structure without dominating, delivering a sense of freshness and elegance. The finish stands out for its persistence and leaves a refreshing mineral impression.
Food and wine pairings
This Vosne-Romanée Village “Les Hauts Beaumonts” 2021 pairs perfectly with roasted red meats, notably boeuf bourguignon or herb-crusted lamb. It also matches beautifully with poultry such as roast duck or chicken in sauce. Mushroom-based dishes, such as coq au vin, make a particularly harmonious pairing. For cheese, opt for soft cheeses with bloomy rinds or aged Burgundian cheeses such as Époisses.
Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to serve the Vosne-Romanée Village “Les Hauts Beaumonts” 2021 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. About one hour of aeration in a decanter or in the glass will allow the wine to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to evolve until around 2035, with an optimal drinking window between 2025 and 2035.
An elegant, silky Vosne-Romanée from Domaine Pierre Girardin
The estate
Domaine Pierre Girardin was founded in 2017 by Pierre-Vincent Girardin, representing the thirteenth generation of a winegrowing family established in Burgundy since the 17th century. Based in Meursault in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate now spans around six and a half hectares of vines across the prestigious appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard, Corton and Vosne-Romanée. Trained from an early age by his father, Vincent Girardin, Pierre-Vincent Girardin manages his vineyard according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with the goal of fully converting to organic farming. His philosophy is to produce elegant, silky wines that precisely express the characteristics of each terroir.
The vineyard
The Climat “Les Hauts Beaumonts” is located within the Vosne-Romanée appellation, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This village-level plot sits high on the slopes, as its name suggests. The terroir rests on clay-limestone soils mixed with sand and silt, over a limestone bedrock. This elevated position offers excellent sun exposure and promotes optimal natural drainage. The continental climate of the Côte de Nuits, characterized by hot summers and cold winters, allows Pinot Noir to ripen gradually and contributes to the mineral expression characteristic of this terroir.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a spring frost episode in April that significantly reduced yields in the region. June and July saw substantial rainfall, followed by weather instability from mid-July to mid-August. Despite these challenging conditions, the grapes that survived the frost benefited from increased concentration, as the vine directed its resources toward a limited number of berries. This situation ultimately made it possible to obtain grapes of remarkable quality, with intense aromatic and phenolic development.
Winemaking and aging
Vosne-Romanée Village “Les Hauts Beaumonts” 2021 is vinified with an approach that emphasizes finesse and elegance. The harvest is carried out by hand, with rigorous grape selection. Vinification relies on indigenous yeasts and favors gentle extractions to preserve the delicacy of the tannins. Aging takes place in carefully selected French oak barrels to complement—without overpowering—the wine’s aromatic profile. The wine is neither fined nor filtered, preserving its authenticity and natural complexity.
