Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Grey Goose Vodka
Tasting
Appearance
Crystal clear, pure and brilliant. It reveals generous legs that testify to its fine viscosity and full body.
Nose
Delicate and floral, it opens with subtle notes of lemon zest and baked bread, a nod to its cereal origins. When served very cold, aromas of dried coconut, dried fruit and a hint of fennel emerge.
Palate
Smooth and rounded, with a silky texture. The palate offers a lovely richness of almond, harmoniously complemented by notes of apple and lemon. A delicate touch of pepper, minerality and aniseed lends structure to the whole.
Pairings and Serving Occasions
Ideal for festive occasions or sophisticated aperitifs, this vodka can be enjoyed neat, lightly chilled or ice-cold. At the table, its purity and citrus notes make it a superb match for seafood, smoked fish and caviar, as well as refined canapés made with fresh cheeses or crisp vegetables.
Mixology
A true benchmark in premium mixology, it excels in martinis (Classic Dry, French, Espresso or Dirty Martini). Its silky structure also enhances refreshing long drinks such as the Moscow Mule, the Vodka Soda, the Sea Breeze and, of course, the timeless Bloody Mary.
The Elegance of a French Terroir Vodka: Excellence from Picardy to Cognac
The History and Expertise of the House
Launched in 1997 by American entrepreneur Sidney Frank and Cellar Master François Thibault, Grey Goose revolutionised the world of spirits by creating a French luxury vodka. It is built on an exacting "grain to bottle" philosophy, underpinned by strong regional roots spanning Picardy and the Cognac region. Now owned by the Bacardi group, led by Mahesh Madhavan, it has retained its artisanal identity and a production process based entirely in France. Under the constant supervision of François Thibault, the distillery combines traditional expertise with cutting-edge technological controls. This approach guarantees impeccable quality and upholds the values of excellence, traceability and purity that have earned the brand its worldwide renown.
A Vodka Born of Rigorous Craftsmanship
The creation of this vodka relies on the careful selection of two exclusive ingredients. The grain is a soft winter wheat from Picardy, classified as "premium bread-making wheat". Grown by three partner cooperatives in the area, this wheat is milled directly on the distillery site to preserve all its aromatic freshness.
Fermentation then transforms the mash into a grain wine, before the crucial stage of distillation. True to its philosophy, the brand has made the technical choice of a single column distillation, a continuous five-step process. This method yields a spirit of great purity while preserving the subtle character and aromatic nuances of the wheat, thus avoiding the excessive neutralisation often associated with multiple distillations.
The final blending takes place in the Cognac region. Here, the distillate is brought down to 40% ABV using spring water from Gensac-la-Pallue, naturally filtered through limestone soils and demineralised by double reverse osmosis. Finally, the vodka undergoes a light polishing through a cellulose and activated charcoal filter. This meticulous process, with no added sugar or additives, gives this vodka its pure, smooth and expressive profile.
