Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Macallan Fine & Rare 24 Years Old Cask No. 27 2000
Tasting
Appearance
Its hue is an autumnal russet, the result of nearly a quarter of a century of maturation in a first-fill European oak butt seasoned with sherry.
Nose
The nose is rich and resinous. It evokes fresh, soft vanilla, ground coffee, white chocolate and Brazil nuts, with a hint of cinnamon.
Palate
On the palate, there are notes of toffee brittle, chocolate-covered raisins, rich oak, light touches of blackberry and cranberry, and subtle cinnamon. The finish is long, with lingering spices, rich oak and citrus zest.
Mixology
This single malt is an exceptional product, which we recommend enjoying neat.
Other characteristics
This whisky is bottled at natural cask strength, 55.0% ABV, without reduction. It comes from cask No. 27, a first-fill European oak butt seasoned with sherry. It is 24 years old. Total production is 570 bottle equivalents. It is available in 750 ml, 700 ml and 50 ml formats.

Macallan, an iconic Scotch whisky from Speyside
Macallan has its roots in early 19th-century Speyside. There, the schoolmaster and farmer Alexander Reid distilled on the lands of Easter Elchies, on the banks of the Spey. The distillery obtained an official licence in 1824 and today belongs to the Scottish group Edrington. This Scotch whisky stands out for its "Curiously Small Stills", among the smallest in Speyside, and for the "Finest Cut", which retains only around 16% of the distillate for ageing. It also relies on oak casks seasoned with sherry and on an entirely natural colour. Kirsteen Campbell has been Macallan's Master Whisky Maker since October 2019. The house celebrated its bicentenary in 2024.

A vintage from the new millennium
This whisky was distilled on 24 February 2000 and bottled in 2024 to celebrate the distillery's 200th anniversary. It is presented as the first Fine & Rare distilled in the new millennium. That year, the Millennium Bug proved to be hypothetical, Inverness was granted city status and Macallan received the Queen's Award for Enterprise. David Cox joined Macallan's board of directors in June 2000, before launching the Fine & Rare Collection in 2002.
This whisky comes from a single cask, a first-fill European oak butt seasoned with sherry, bearing the number 27. It is bottled at 55% ABV, at natural cask strength. The edition is limited to 570 bottle equivalents.
