Jancis Robinson

Jancis Robinson

Two main sources are Quinta de Vargellas, which is north-facing and so protected from excessive heat, and giving floral notes, plus Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco around Pinhão for earthier characteristics. Only 6,500 cases were made, instead of the usual 12,000–14,000. Dark crimson but without the blueish purple of the Grahams. Tight, refined nose – rather claret-like. Not as obviously sweet as some. Restrained aromatically: backward with sharp, linear blackcurrant and violet notes. This tastes like a somewhat shouty, scratchy baby at the moment – which is no criticism of a wine designed to age as long as a vintage port. But then there are masses of sweet fruit with liquorice surrounded in a scratchy skein of tannins and acidity. (JR)

Falstaff

Falstaff

Deep dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, very DELICATE brightening to the rim. Ripe blackberry fruit, fine nougat, DELICATE dried fruit, mint, fine tobacco nuances. Taut, tightly meshed, fine chocolate touch, ripe, supporting tannins, elegant texture, very complex and great persistence, as if from a single mold, almost dry in the finish, an aristocratic style, Vintage Port at its best, excellent ageing potential, a wine full of noble restraint.

Description

The Refinement and Structure of a Great Vintage Port

While Taylor’s latest Vintage Port was unveiled in 2011, Taylor's 2016 promises to be very refined, revealing a perfect blend of purity and structure.

The Taylor's Vintage Port 2016 is consistent with the style that has defined the reputation of this historic Port estate, whose origins date back to 1692 and which has survived through many centuries by remaining independent.

The Taylor's Vintage Port 2016 is a blend of the finest wines from the estate's three estates: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta de Junco. Each of these properties located in the Duriense region of Portugal is home to its very own terroir, lending the wine exceptional richness and complexity.

Although the grape harvests began late, at the end of September 2016, the weather conditions of the 2016 vintage resulted in perfectly ripe grapes with perfectly balanced fruit.

The Taylor's Vintage Port 2016 is beautiful, presenting an aromatic palette of intense fruit and complex aromas. The delicate fruit notes are enhanced by aromas of fresh plum and raspberry, all revealing a discreet woody quality. With aeration, the wine reveals the full extent of its personality, unfolding elegant floral notes with scents of rose and jasmine. On the palate, this Port wine explodes with flavour, developing the same notes perceived on the nose, while displaying a firm structured and finely grained, silky tannins. The finish stretches forward in a length marked by a nice acidity. Refinement, balance, liveliness and persistence on the finish characterise this great Vintage Port, true to to the signature style of the Taylor's estate.
