Decanter

Fresh and appealing nose that's compact and fruit-driven, with notes of ripe pear and apple compote. Enjoyably bright finish. The cinnamon oak work is subtle. You could drink this by itself or with food. Good sense of tension.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Lieu-dit "Digue" 2024 Yves Cuilleron

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a golden hue of moderate to pale intensity, highlighting a beautiful clarity.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white flowers and fresh citrus, subtly underscored by a mineral touch.

Palate
Elegant and perfectly balanced, the palate offers lovely freshness combined with tension. The texture is unctuous, leading to a long, persistent finish dominated by minerality.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with saffron lobster ravioli, grilled fish or fish in cream sauce, as well as delicate white meats such as roast chicken. It will also enhance dishes with mild Asian spices or a matured goat cheese.

Service and storage

Built for beautiful evolution in the bottle, the Lieu-dit "Digue" 2024 can be kept in a cool, dark environment and enjoyed until around 2034.

The elegance and minerality of a great white wine from Saint-Joseph

The estate

Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron in Chavanay, the estate has established itself as a true benchmark in France, at the heart of the Rhône Valley. While the first bottlings date back to 1947, it was under the leadership of Yves Cuilleron, the current owner who took over the estate in 1987, that it experienced remarkable growth. The vineyard now spans around a hundred hectares across several prestigious appellations. A staunch advocate of sustainable viticulture, the estate is actively pursuing its transition to organic farming.

The vineyard

This wine comes from a distinctive plot located in the commune of Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf, within the Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines, planted at high density on an extremely steep slope, benefit from a due-south exposure that ensures optimal ripeness. The terroir is distinguished by soils composed of Velay granite and cordierite migmatites, lending it a unique mineral signature. The vines are worked by hand, with the utmost respect for biodiversity, using natural grass cover and no insecticides.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a spring and early summer marked by heavy rainfall, requiring increased vigilance in the vineyards. Fortunately, the end of summer and start of autumn brought warm, mild conditions. This favourable weather allowed the grapes to reach ideal ripeness, leading to an early harvest starting at the end of August.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes destined for the Lieu-dit "Digue" 2024 are hand-harvested through successive sorting passes to select only perfectly ripe berries. Alcoholic fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in oak barrels and wooden foudres, the same vessels in which malolactic fermentation also occurs. The wine is then aged on fine lees for nine months, with regular lees stirring to add complexity. It is naturally clarified by gravity, without any fining, before being sealed with a technical cork that preserves its purity.
