Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal Malbec 2021 by Zuccardi
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deeply saturated ruby red hue, beautifully enhanced by delicate violet highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves particularly expressive, unveiling aromas of black berries intertwined with distinctive notes of tapenade and black olive. These are joined by complex hints of iron, iodine, burnt orange and delicate rose scents, all underlined by nuances of tar and graphite.
Palate
On the palate, this cuvée offers a commanding structure carried by exceptional acidity. The minerality expresses itself fully through evocations of graphite and wet stone. The tannins, of great finesse, coat the mouth through to a persistent finish, marked by a chalky, savoury and subtly saline sensation.
Food and wine pairings
This full-bodied cuvée pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted meats, such as a fine cut of beef, lamb, pork or turkey. Dishes seasoned with rosemary, cumin or pepper will elevate its aromas. As for cheeses, opt for characterful varieties such as cheddar, manchego, asiago or a blue-veined cheese.
The pure expression of an exceptional terroir in the heart of the Valle de Uco
The estate
Founded in 1963 by Alberto Zuccardi, this family-owned estate is located in the Mendoza region, at the foot of the Andes mountain range. Initially a pioneer in irrigation systems, the company has grown into a leading brand and a major player in Argentine winegrowing. Now led by Sebastián Zuccardi, representing the third generation of owners, the estate stands out for its commitment to biodynamics, having been Demeter-certified since 2016. The bodega enjoys worldwide renown, producing premium terroir-driven wines that purely and elegantly express the unique identity of their place of origin.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from a small 0.73-hectare plot, a true single vineyard located in the north-east section of the Finca Piedra Infinita estate. This vineyard is planted at 1,100 metres above sea level in the Paraje Altamira Geographical Indication, in San Carlos, within the Valle de Uco. The vines grow on a highly distinctive soil profile, composed of large gravel and granite stones, covered by a layer of chalky material at a depth of between 40 and 50 centimetres. The entire vineyard is managed according to the principles of biodynamic farming.
The vintage
The year was marked by cool, humid weather conditions, characterised in particular by a cold spring followed by a rainy summer. This particular climate allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness, offering a perfect balance between acidity and sugars while developing a solid tannic structure.
Vinification and ageing
The creation of the Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal Malbec 2021 is overseen by winemaking director Sebastián Zuccardi and head winemaker Laura Principiano. The harvest is carried out plot by plot in order to pick the grapes at the ideal moment. After rigorous manual sorting, the berries are vatted by gravity. Fermentation is initiated by indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks that are not lined with epoxy. Ageing then takes place entirely in these same concrete vessels, without technological intervention, in order to preserve the authentic expression of the fruit.
