Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for La Sansa 2024 from Castelmaure

Tasting

Colour
The glass reveals a vivid red colour with subtle mauve highlights, reflecting moderate intensity and the wine's youthfulness.

Nose
Particularly expressive and forthright, the aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of red fruit, dominated by the enticing aromas of cherry and morello cherry.

Palate
The attack is very smooth and unctuous. The palate offers wonderful volume and a silky texture, carried by a hedonistic and approachable profile. The finish lingers with excellent length on flavours of fresh red fruit.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with tapas, Mediterranean-inspired sharing plates, or wood-fire roasted poultry such as guinea fowl. It will also pair beautifully with southern cuisine featuring olive oil, tomatoes and aromatic herbs.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate La Sansa 2024, it is recommended to serve it at around 16°C. Designed to be enjoyed for its fruit, this wine is best drunk young and does not require extended cellaring.

The pure and natural expression of a wine from Corbières

The estate

Officially founded in 1921, the cooperative winery Castelmaure is located in Embres-et-Castelmaure, at the heart of the Languedoc region. Chaired by Patrick de Hoym de Marien since 1987 and managed by Antoine Robert, this historic institution has successfully reinvented itself to prioritise quality over quantity. Driven by its ecological values and its commitment to its winegrowers, the estate stands out for its entirely manual harvesting and environmentally respectful approach. Today, it embodies cooperative excellence by offering authentic, accessible wines that remain true to their terroir.

The vineyard

Spanning around 450 hectares within the Corbières appellation, the vineyard rises to between 180 and 400 metres in altitude. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate sheltered by the Serre mountain. The vines, some of which are a hundred years old and deeply rooted, grow across a mosaic of complex soils: dark schist in the north-west lending minerality, and clay-limestone soils in the south-east providing greater richness. The entire vineyard, surrounded by wild garrigue, is harvested by hand.

Winemaking and ageing

The production of La Sansa 2024 is defined by a natural approach. After careful manual sorting, the grapes are transported by gravity. The Syrah and Grenache are destemmed and co-fermented in the traditional way, while the Carignan undergoes whole-bunch maceration for 12 days. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks temperature-controlled by a natural water system. Ageing then continues in concrete tanks, with regular rackings, to preserve the brightness of the fruit without any oak influence.

Grape varieties

Syrah (50%), Carignan (30%), Grenache (20%).
