Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Leclerc Briant Abyss Rosé Extra Brut 2019
Tasting
Appearance
The color reveals deep amber highlights. A fine, lively effervescence animates the glass, evoking the shimmer of small waves on the beach.
Nose
The nose offers a true sensory journey. First impressions reveal iodine notes that mingle with citrus and wild berries. With aeration, the bouquet evolves toward aromas of violet, pistachio and biscuit, reflecting the complexity acquired during maturation.
Palate
On the palate, the finely creamy effervescence highlights the delicacy of a dry, fruit-driven texture. Paired with a marine salinity, it lends the wine both clarity and refinement. The chalky structure and savory finish extend the tasting experience with persistence.
Food and wine pairings
This champagne pairs particularly well with seafood and shellfish. It also elegantly accompanies grilled or raw fish, smoked salmon, as well as mushroom-based preparations such as morels.
Serving and cellaring
Abyss Rosé Extra Brut 2019 will reach its optimal drinking window between around 2027 and 2035. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 8 and 10°C.
An exceptional rosé champagne aged beneath the Atlantic Ocean
The estate
Located in the heart of the village of Epernay, the Champagne Leclerc Briant House boasts a rich history whose origins date back to the 19th century.
Following the death of Pascal Leclerc, the 5th generation at the helm of the family house, the estate was acquired in 2012 by Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupré. Passionate and native to the United States, this couple is driven by the ambition to make this House a standard-bearer among Champagne’s great producers.
The vineyard
The grapes for Abyss Rosé come from carefully selected plots in Champagne, notably from Montgueux for chardonnay and from Premier Cru or Grand Cru villages for pinot noir. These vineyards rest on chalk-rich soils, creating a geological resonance with the sedimentary seabed of Stiff Bay off Ouessant, where the wine undergoes its underwater maturation. The entire vineyard is farmed under certified organic and biodynamic practices.
Vinification and aging
After aging on lees, Abyss Rosé Extra Brut 2019 is disgorged with zero dosage before being immersed sixty meters deep in Stiff Bay, off the Breton island of Ouessant. Over long months, the champagne matures beneath the Atlantic Ocean, exposed to the constant movement of marine currents and steady hydrostatic pressure. This underwater maturation gives the wine greater minerality and a unique complexity. The bottles retain their marine cork and wire hood, bearing witness to this exceptional immersion.
