Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Taittinger's Brut Millésimé 2018
Tasting Notes
Appearance
This wine displays a bright, pure yellow colour, still marked by youthfulness and enhanced by delicate golden hues.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves particularly charming and open. It releases seductive scents of white and yellow fruits such as pear and ripe peach, mingled with citrus touches reminiscent of kumquat. Subtle floral notes of hawthorn and verbena intertwine with delicate hints of spice, liquorice and a light toastiness.
Palate
The attack on the palate is lively and full of energy. The tasting reveals a silky, unctuous texture, carried by flavours of peach, citrus and honeysuckle. The whole is supported by superb mineral tension and extends into a long, saline finish, enhanced by an elegant bitterness reminiscent of orange peel.
Food and Wine Pairings
This magnificent sparkling wine will pair wonderfully with raw or grilled fish, seafood, and flavourful white meats. It will also match perfectly with aged cheeses or fine cured meats.
Serving and Cellaring
The Brut Millésimé 2018 boasts excellent ageing potential. It is ready to drink now, but may also be cellared and enjoyed until at least 2031.
The Elegance and Precision of a Great Champagne by Taittinger
The Estate
Founded in its current form in 1932 by Pierre-Charles Taittinger with the acquisition of Château de la Marquetterie, the House has established itself as a key benchmark in Champagne. Today, the founding family still oversees the estate's destiny, with Vitalie Taittinger at its helm. The estate spans 288 hectares, making it the third largest in the region. This renowned brand stands out for its independence, its attachment to culture and its deep commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture, thereby guaranteeing the excellence of its cuvées.
The Vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée come from exceptional terroirs, made up of 70% Grands Crus and 30% Premiers Crus. The selected plots are located in prestigious villages such as Bouzy, Ambonnay, Chouilly, Avize, Mailly-Champagne, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Écueil, Hautvillers, Vertus and Bergères-les-Vertus. This Champagne estate is farmed according to rigorous sustainable practices, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (level 3), Viticulture Durable en Champagne and ISO 14001.
The Vintage
2018 was marked by particularly warm and dry weather conditions. This mild climate favoured an abundant harvest and impeccable berry health. The grapes were thus able to reach optimal ripeness, yielding a rich, generous and concentrated fruit.
Winemaking and Ageing
After the harvest, the still wines are carefully blended. The Brut Millésimé 2018 then undergoes a long ageing period on laths in the House's historic cellars for five years, allowing it to develop its full complexity before disgorgement.
