Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Champy Corton Grand Cru 2010
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue with garnet highlights.
Nose
The nose displays a beautiful aromatic intensity, blending notes of red and black berries with subtle spicy and smoky touches.
Palate
On the palate, this French red wine shows a dense, opulent tannic structure. Rather closed in its youth, it opens up with time to reveal great richness, unveiling flavours of liquorice and gamey notes, supported by a long-lasting finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with dishes of character, such as red meat in sauce, feathered game or well-matured cheeses with pronounced flavours.
Serving and Cellaring
Built for a very long evolution, this Corton Grand Cru 2010 boasts a remarkable ageing potential. It can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2050.
The Authentic Expression and Power of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, the Champy house is the oldest négociant house still active in Burgundy. Established in the heart of Beaune, it today farms a vineyard of just over 21 hectares on the Côte de Beaune. Renowned for its exceptional historical heritage and its commitment to sustainable viticulture, the estate has belonged to the AdVini group since 2016. Under the technical direction of Dimitri Bazas, the estate continues to showcase Burgundy's great terroirs with unwavering rigour.
The Vineyard
The plot of the Le Rognet climat covers a small area of 0.33 hectares on the famous Corton hill. Located between 250 and 330 metres in altitude, the vines, over fifty years old, benefit from an amphitheatre-shaped topography and an ideal east and south-east facing exposure. They thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in marl, providing perfect conditions to promote optimal grape ripening while preserving a lovely freshness.
Winemaking and Ageing
To craft this Corton Grand Cru 2010, the grapes are hand-harvested and then fully destemmed. A cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, triggered by indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for around fourteen months in French oak barrels, of which 30% are new, refining its structure without masking the identity of its terroir.
Grape Variety
