Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Corton Grand Cru 2011 from Maison Champy

Food and wine pairings

This Corton Grand Cru 2011 pairs perfectly with noble poultry such as duck and goose, as well as feathered game.

A full-bodied and delicate Grand Cru from Burgundy

The estate

Founded in 1720, Maison Champy remains the oldest wine merchant house in Burgundy still in operation. Located in the heart of Beaune in Côte-d'Or, it owns 21 hectares of vineyards primarily on the Côte de Beaune, including plots in Corton Grands Crus. Owned by the AdVini group since October 2016, the estate is led by Thierry Bellicaud as President and Dimitri Bazas as Technical Director. Listed as a UNESCO historic monument and certified Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant since 2021, it is home to the only active production cellars within the city walls in Beaune’s historic center, including one kilometer of cellars dating back to the 15th century.

The vineyard

Corton is one of the most prestigious appellations in the Côte de Beaune. Maison Champy’s plots in Corton Grand Cru benefit from an exceptional terroir, producing wines in limited quantities due to the small size of the parcels and the rigorous selection of grapes. The estate farms its vineyards with a sustainable approach, with fifty percent of the surface certified organic and fifty percent under Haute Valeur Environnementale.

The vintage

The 2011 vintage stood out in Burgundy for an exceptionally early harvest, with picking beginning as early as August, a remarkable particularity for the region.

Grape variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
