Description
Tasting notes and advice for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 2014 from Champy
Tasting
Color
The color shows an intense garnet hue with ruby highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals aromas of fresh red fruits, notably redcurrant, accompanied by hints of humus in the background on a woody base. With aeration, the bouquet unveils an explosion of macerated red fruits.
Palate
On the palate, this wine displays impressive concentration. A fruity attack leads into a lovely breadth supported by a refined structure with well-balanced tannins. The finish is persistent and slightly rustic.
Food and wine pairings
This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru pairs particularly well with poultry such as duck and goose, as well as with game dishes.
Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to open the bottle 4 hours before tasting to allow the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru 2014 to fully reveal the complexity of its aromas.

The estate
Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, a cooper from Beaune, Champy remains the oldest wine merchant house in Burgundy. Based in the heart of Beaune, it farms 21 hectares of vines in the Côte de Beaune, producing 4 regional appellations, 23 village wines, 14 Premier Crus and 6 Grands Crus. Owned by the Meurgey family since 1990 and led by oenologist Dimitri Bazas, it stands out for its early commitment to biodynamics since 2007.
The vineyard
The Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru comes from the namesake appellation located in Côte de Nuits, in the northern part of the Côte d'Or. The 26 climats classified as Premier Cru cover 80 hectares and enjoy eastern and south-eastern exposure. The vines thrive between 280 and 380 meters in elevation on shallow brown limestone soils, offering ideal conditions for expressing Pinot Noir.
Winemaking and aging
The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru 2014 is produced using traditional Burgundian methods, helping to preserve the authenticity and typicity of this exceptional terroir.
