Vinum

The nose is clear and pure, delicately fruity, with subtle toasty notes, plenty of florality and a noble restraint: you look, you find. On the palate it is direct and of great elegance, vertical, full of power, yet the wine glides across the stage with a dancer’s lightness—muscle, control, focus. The tannins are of the highest quality, and the acidity provides drive; the finish is exceptionally long. A GPL that, thanks to its finesse, will go down in the history books.

Decanter

Deep violets and heady blackcurrants on the nose, fresh though, inviting and crystalline – aromatically expressive. Supple and sapid with a real hands-off feeling. Approachable with a clean, clear grip to the fine tannins, mint, cool blueberries, graphite and wet stones. The terroir really shines in the glass. Feels very modern with mouthwatering acidity setting the tone – bright, lively and upfront. Delicious, crunchy and leaves a lasting impression with grip, tension, energy and focus. Maybe a little less dense than usual but more refined. 13%. A yield of 30hl/ha.

This textbook Pauillac opens with aromas of cassis, flowers, blackberries, tobacco, and a lead pencil. The palate is lifted, powerful, juicy, and chewy. The wine is long, fresh, and creamy, and, most importantly, packed with round fruit and tobacco leaves that linger. This is a modern, classically styled vintage. The wine is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon with 24% Merlot, 13.2% ABV. Picking took place September 4 - September 18. Yields were 30 hectoliters, per hectare. Drink from 2028 - 2060. 95-97 Pts

Vibrant, in the spirit of the 2025 vintage, cloves, capsicum, blueberry and cassis fruits, plenty of delicious texture, lovely sappy and bright juice, firm tannins, appellation typicity, crayon and mint leaf. First year for the new cellar. 65% new oak for ageing

Yves Beck

The bouquet of Grand-Puy-Lacoste immediately impresses with its intensity, freshness and complexity. It reveals its ageing through hints of fresh wood, but only to better set the stage and unify the aromatic profile. Smooth on the attack, the wine unfolds seamlessly, with serenity and precision. Its powerful tannins are perfectly on point, showing measured vigor without excess, while pairing with the incisive character of the acidity. A vibrant, precise and harmonious wine. Given its current form, it is ready for the decades to come. A tremendous success! 97-98

Deep dark red color with black highlights. An intense, refined bouquet—fruity, pure and profound. Notes of ink and licorice emerge when the glass is swirled. Impeccisely detailed on entry, with a graceful texture and a fine, silky richness that coats the palate and delivers plenty of flavor (licorice, violet), the wine develops with length, power and nuance into a great, sappy finish with fine-grained tannins. Irresistible overall. Blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot. Alcohol: 13.2% - pH: 3.6 - IPT: 66.

Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2025

Tasting

Nose

The bouquet reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity, marked by a core of blackcurrant and plum, subtly enhanced by floral notes of iris and hibiscus. A mineral touch with ferrous accents elegantly underlines the identity of its terroir.

Palate

This wine proves to be both deep and remarkably precise. Its broad, structured architecture rests on tannins of great finesse. The whole displays remarkable elegance, supported by a beautiful freshness and a mineral tension that lengthens the finish.

Food and wine pairings

This great red wine pairs wonderfully with rich and flavourful meat dishes. It will perfectly enhance roast beef, beef Wellington or game preparations such as venison.

The elegance and depth of a Pauillac wine crafted by Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

The estate

Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, the Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste took its current form in 1855, although it was originally built in the 16th century. The wine estate was shaped by Raymond Dupin's stewardship from 1930 to 1978. He then handed over the property to the Borie family in 1978, who have carried out numerous renovations ever since. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is today one of the most representative crus of the Pauillac appellation.

The vineyard

The exceptional terroir of this Pauillac estate lies on deep gravel mounds resting on a limestone bedrock, providing perfect drainage and excellent heat retention. The vineyard stretches over 63 hectares of vines in a single block surrounding the estate building. The vines, averaging over 40 years old, are planted at a high density of 9,000 vines per hectare. Committed to an eco-responsible approach, the property has been HVE certified since 2019, integrating agroecology and vitipastoralism. An adjoining forest park contributes to biodiversity, bringing shade, balance and freshness to the plots.

The wine

2025 marks the first vintage produced in the estate's new vat room. To mark the occasion, the bottles feature a special design, a silkscreen print celebrating this new chapter for the property.

The vintage

The 2025 vintage was marked by great precocity. Following a mild and relatively dry winter, budburst took place uniformly from late March. The spring, spared from humidity, ensured an excellent sanitary state and allowed for an ideal flowering starting on 19 May. The summer proved hot and dry, leading to a rapid veraison on 15 July, with the vineyard fully coloured by the end of the month. A few welcome rains from 29 August onwards reshaped the end of the season before manual harvesting took place from 4 to 18 September. Yields reached 30 hl/ha.

Vinification and ageing

To bring out the best in Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2025, the estate commissioned a brand-new semi-buried gravity-fed vat room. This modern facility, equipped with 24 glycol-thermoregulated stainless steel vats, allows for highly precise plot-by-plot vinification while working entirely by gravity. Ergonomics, energy performance, safety with fermentation CO₂ capture and natural thermal regulation have all been optimised. The wine then benefits from careful ageing in French oak barrels.

Grape varieties

76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot.
