Description

Tasting notes and recommendations for Val do Galir Godello 2025 by CVNE - Virgen del Galir

Tasting

Appearance
The wine displays a bright, luminous yellow hue.

Nose
The nose reveals a delicate, Atlantic profile marked by pronounced minerality. It offers aromas of citrus fruits, dried apples, and salt-cured lemons, subtly complemented by floral and undergrowth notes.

Palate
Full and well-structured, the palate charms with its silky texture. It unfolds a savory, saline substance supported by vibrant acidity. The finish is persistent, extending a mineral sensation reminiscent of wet stone.

Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs perfectly with seafood such as oysters or herb-grilled shrimp, as well as delicate fish. It also complements roasted vegetables like asparagus or artichokes, light white meats, and traditional Spanish stews.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at 10°C in classic white wine glasses, without prior decanting. It can be enjoyed in its youth for its freshness, but also has the structure needed to develop additional complexity after a few years of bottle aging.

The mineral expression and elegance of a white wine from Valdeorras

The estate

Founded in 1879 in Rioja, the historic Spanish house CVNE is now led by the fifth generation. In 2018, as part of an expansion strategy, the group acquired Virgen del Galir. Established in 2002 and located in the village of Éntoma in Galicia, this estate has become a key player in the region’s wine revival. Under the guidance of oenologist Miguel Tienda, the estate produces cuvées that precisely express the unique identity of their terroir.

The vineyard

The vineyard from which this wine originates is called A Malosa, a 21-hectare plot planted on terraces in the heart of the Valdeorras appellation. Located between 400 and 600 meters above sea level, the vines benefit from varied exposures to the north and south. The soils stand out for their great diversity: the eastern part consists exclusively of very poor slate schist, while the western side features more silty and clay-rich soils. The harvest is carried out manually in small crates.

Winemaking and aging

As soon as they arrive at the winery, the grapes undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting one to three days. Gentle direct pressing is then performed, keeping only the free-run juice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit and its expression of the terroir. Finally, the wine is aged on its lees for three months to enhance texture and complexity.

Grape variety

Godello (100%). An emblematic native grape variety of northwestern Spain, Godello is distinguished by its ability to faithfully convey the minerality of schist soils while offering generous aromatic breadth.
